What does an environmentally friendly package look like? What types of packaging do I need to get the ideal eco-friendly package? These are questions that many webshop owners ask themselves and that’s why we’re here to give you our take on what such a package might look like.

Above you can see our idea of the ideal package, where everything is made of environmentally friendly packaging, from the cardboard box, to the filling, to the sealing and to the addressing.

☘️ Pack / Emballer:

Let’s start by taking a look at the cardboard box. Use a box where the quality is top notch, but at the same time made from sustainable forestry and a high percentage of recycled paper.

Our boxes consist of 70% recycled paper. We have ensured the high quality of our kraft liner (outside), which is made from wood from sustainable forest management. Our testliner (the inside of the corrugated board) is made from recycled paper. All in all, a sustainable box that can be recycled, reused and made from sustainable materials.

But don’t stop at the box – also think about the box’s functions and the footprint it leaves in its path:

Reduce: make sure to fit the box to the contents and minimize empty space, this not only reduces the amount of packaging and package filling, but the package’s reduced volume also allows for more space in transit, so trips on the roads, around, are reduced.
Recycling has many angles hidden in it, but when we talk about your cardboard box, you can make considerations such as return shipping – should and can the box be recycled by the customer? You reduce return damage by offering the customer the right packaging and you save the customer buying another box. Depending on what makes sense for you and your product, consider all the steps in the process right away. Case with return closure.

☘️ Protect – with environmentally friendly paper package filling:

Now we move on to the package filling. Use paper parcel fillers and make sure the paper is from sustainable forest management, FSC certified and or produced from 100% recycled materials. Packaging paper, which is one of the options, (also called kraft paper) has the advantage that it can serve both as packaging and as filling.

☘️ Seal – with environmentally friendly packing tape:

Now we have found the cardboard box and we have put the filling in… now the cardboard box needs to be sealed and this is donewith environmentally friendly packing tape made from paper that can be recycled with the box.

Paper tape instead of plastic is a super alternative to the classic PP or PVC packing tape. It has the same great properties but is made from sustainable resources: silicone-free kraft paper and an adhesive made from natural rubber. You don’t have to remove the tape when the box needs to be recycled, so you save a lot of resources.

This is where the paper tape separates. The paper tape can be recycled with the packaging, unlike the other types of tape which often have to be removed before the cardboard can be recycled. In addition to the paper tape allowing you to create a 1-material solution with paper tape, cardboard box and possibly eco-friendly packaging paper, the brown natural look also gives a nice overall look. What’s not to like ?

☘️ Addressing

We have added to our range an environmentally friendly variant of the paper addressing pocket. This paper tracking pocket can be recycled with the cardboard box. The glue is solvent free and they come in different sizes.
