Imagine a package where EVERYTHING is made of paper: the box or e-commerce bag, the bubble wrap, the packing tape, the packing slip envelope, even the stretch film used to protect the pallet. Imagine the great look of your packaging and, above all, how easy it will be for your consumer to recycle!
Monomaterials are the strongest packaging trend of the year, and RAJA has just what you need to get started.
What are mono materials?
Monomaterials, as the name suggests, means a product made from a single type of material. Mono-material packaging makes it easier for consumers to recycle – if the whole package is plastic, it can easily be sorted for plastic recycling, and if the whole package is paper, it can easily be put in the paper bin at the recycling station. Your customer doesn’t have to pull the plastic film out of a bubble envelope, or remove packing tape and packing tape from the packaging to recycle all the material properly.
Paper mono-materials provide a natural look, while sending a clear signal to your customers that you care about the environment.
Is paper better than plastic?
Yes, paper is generally better than plastic for the environment. Because paper and cardboard are made from trees, they are naturally biodegradable in nature. On the contrary, plastic, which is made from oil, can take hundreds of years to decompose if it ends up in nature. What’s more, when plastic breaks down naturally, the residue remains in the environment as microplastics.
Why should you choose paper instead of plastic when choosing packaging?
Here are three reasons:
- Renewable: as I said, paper is made from wood, a resource we can grow indefinitely. This reduces the impact on the environment and the use of raw materials. As trees grow, CO2 is also removed from the air and converted into new oxygen. Not bad, eh?
- Easier to sort: plastics come in many different varieties, from PP and PVC to LDPE and ABS. You have to be extra careful because you can’t always sort all plastics together. Fortunately, this is easier with paper. You can put all clean paper packaging in the same recycling bin, so the material can be given a new life through recycling.
- The good qualities of paper: paper and cardboard are very shock-resistant, so your delivery will be in safe hands. Paper is generally free of chlorine and acids. In addition, it is antistatic. Shipping electronics? Then there is no risk of electrostatic discharges that could damage your devices.
