How to replace 3 common packaging products with an eco-friendly alternative

The packaging industry is becoming more and more sustainable at an ever-increasing rate. If you consciously choose packaging materials with the environment in mind, you as a company are often already ahead of your competitors. Read on to learn about our eco-friendly alternatives to bubble wrap, e-commerce bags and packing tape.

1. Eco-friendly bubble wrap or kraft paper

It’s no wonder that bubble wrap is the first choice for many e-tailers when it comes to filling and protection materials – it’s a flexible and versatile material that provides effective protection for your products. However, the material is made of plastic, a material that degrades slowly or not at all in the environment, causing harm to humans, animals and nature. The good news is that our bubble wrap is high quality and can be reused and recycled. In addition, we offer alternatives to the standard bubble wrap, for those who want to further reduce their carbon footprint:

• Eco-friendly bubble wrap has the same good properties as regular bubble wrap but is made from 80% recycled material. This slightly reduces the overall climate impact, as recycled resources are used.
• Kraft paper is a popular packaging material that is both 100% recycled and recyclable, perfect for effectively packaging and protecting your products.
• Another type of protective material is packing chips, which are perfect for filling the empty space in a box. Flo-Pak natural is made from biodegradable corn starch, which decomposes with water and leaves no toxic waste. This material is also identified by its green colour.

2. Eco-friendly e-commerce bags

E-commerce bags are an e-tailer’s best friend. It takes up less warehouse space than corrugated boxes, and it reduces your shipping costs because the material is also lighter in weight. In short, it’s a perfect solution for those who ship products that are a little more impact-resistant, such as clothing. Unfortunately, just like bubble wrap, e-commerce bags are usually made of plastic, which pollutes the environment in a way that corrugated cardboard does not. Here, too, we at RAJA can offer eco-friendly alternatives:

• Our eco-friendly e-commerce bags are made from 100% recycled plastic, minimising the environmental impact as much as possible. The bags also have an adhesive strip for closure, are water-resistant and have a black interior that protects from view.
• Paper e-commerce bags are ideal for all types of soft products such as garments, wool, textiles and toys. This range of paper envelopes is made without plastic and from 30% recycled kraft paper. The bags are also fully recyclable.

3. Eco-friendly paper packing tape

When it comes to sealing packages, plastic packing tape is a natural choice for many. But even here you can easily make an environmentally friendly choice without compromising on quality. Paper packing tape gives your packages a natural look and in fact, in many cases paper tape is more cost-effective than plastic tape. Paper tape is strong and sticks instantly which leads to reduced consumption of tape compared to plastic tape which most people tend to overuse in multiple layers. In addition, paper tape adheres better than plastic tape to recycled boxes.

• RAJA’s own paper tape is self-adhesive and has a high moisture resistance. The tape is made from 57g silicone-free kraft paper with a natural rubber glue that makes it recyclable along with the cardboard. Used for sealing boxes up to 20 kg in weight. The paper tape is best used in conjunction with a standard hand dispenser for packing tape.
• If you choose paper sealing strips instead, the adhesive is activated when moistened and bonds immediately to the surface of the carton. This ensures optimal long-term adhesion to cartons of any quality. When the wet adhesive tape is removed, the surface is damaged and unauthorised access is immediately recognised. Please note that a tape dispenser for sealing strips is required to process the tape.
