Packaging machinery is a hot topic and many companies can see real benefits from automating their packaging processes. Why automate your packaging processes?

If you pack more than 10 parcels a day, it’s likely that a packaging machine could help your business save time and money. Many machines are also available to rent, so there are no big costs to worry about.

Different types of packaging machines

A wide range of packaging processes can be automated, including strapping, sealing and cushioning. Strapping machines streamline the process of tying packages with packing tape. With a bag sealer, you can quickly and easily seal bags on an assembly line. Stretch wrapping machines are often used by companies that use a large amount of pallet transport.

Our most popular machines are probably packaging machines that create filling material on the spot. Ensuring that goods arrive in good condition is essential to any successful business. To protect loose items during shipping, paper or air filling is ideal for cushioning and protection.

How does a packing machine work for filling and protection?

Packing machines produce filling material quickly and easily, when it is needed, instead of buying it ready-made. The packing material fed into the machines (e.g. plastic or paper) can be ordered in economical rolls, which means lower shipping costs for your business and more storage space.

Air filling systems – more environmentally friendly than you might think

It is common knowledge that paper is better than plastic from an environmental point of view. Filling materials made of paper break down much easier in the environment. But one environmental aspect that many people don’t think about when it comes to bubble wrap or air cushions is that the filling material can consist of as much as 99% air. In this way, it can be a very resource-efficient material to use. If you use an air-fill system, you also have the advantage that the plastic film takes up very little space in transport from us to your warehouse, as it is not delivered inflated.

And of course we offer alternatives to plastic film that are kinder to the environment. If you choose RAJA’s own air filling system RAJAAIR 1 or RAJAAIR2, you can choose to use it together with our popular paper film. We also have biodegradable plastic film and film made from 50% recycled material.

Paper filling machines – a RAJA favourite

Paper filling machines offer another cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to create filling material. Studies have shown that consumers prefer to have paper material in their packages for environmental reasons. The machines take paper tubes and deliver strong, shrink-wrapped paper that can be used to securely wrap packages. These machines are ideal for high-volume processes (they produce up to 1.4 metres of paper per second) and although larger than air-cushion systems, they offer greater flexibility. If you’re packing over 50 products a day, you’ll save time and money, and your material usage will be reduced by 30% within the first three months. More options are available that include features such as remote controls, foot pedals and paper length programming.

Make the most of cardboard with cardboard recyclers

Tip: why not make use of the cardboard waste already created in your office or warehouse? Become an environmental hero and reuse your used cardboard boxes as filler material with the help of our handy cardboard recycler. The machine perforates cardboard to give you a flexible, tensile-weight material that can be used to protect your products during transport and fill empty spaces in your packages.

Machines for sealing, bundling and tying

Fast forward to sealing, bundling and tying machines. The packaging process can involve many steps, and streamlining one or more of them with the help of a machine can be a really good idea and something that can increase your speed in terms of the number of packages or goods prepared per day.

Tape stretchers streamline taping

Does your business often use packing tape to seal packages? We have strapping machines for both smaller and larger needs that automate the process of stretching and sealing PP strapping. A typical machine can wrap and seal a box in under 10 seconds. They are rugged and easy to use, while changing the strapping roll is quick and easy. If you pack over 50 packages a day, it’s likely that a strapping machine could save you significant time and money.

If you want a more flexible machine, we also offer a hand-held version – our battery-powered tape stretcher is recommended for businesses that tape both horizontally and vertically up to 150 seals/hour. It works with PP or PET stra pping, tensioning and welding the packing tape at the touch of a button.

Environmentally friendly sealing with electronic tape dispenser

Have you been thinking about replacing your plastic packing tape with an environmentally friendly version? RAJA’s electronic tape dispenser uses sealing strips – tape made from paper, whose adhesive is activated by water heated by the electronic dispenser. Attach the tape dispenser, select the tape length and start – the machine activates, dispenses and cuts off pieces of tape in the right length.

A switch to paper tape is something your customers will notice and appreciate! As well as paper being better for the environment, recycling is simplified as the tape does not need to be separated from the cardboard.

Wireless staple gun makes stapling more efficient

Maybe you use staples to seal your packages instead? If so, we have a wire-lock staple gun in our range that might be of interest. Staples can have many different uses, this machine is perfect for mobile use in production workshops, warehouses or logistics. With up to 800 staples per battery charge, it’s a really powerful solution.

Stabilise your pallets with a stretch film machine

Stretch film is often and often used to ensure that pallets are stable during transport or long-term storage. By using stretch film, accidents can be avoided and the goods are well protected from moisture, dust and dirt. RAJA offers stretch film machines with various additional features such as motorized pre-stretching and digital control panel. Perfect if your company handles a large number of pallets. Note that stretch film machines are used with specially formulated machine stretch film.

Fix/protect your products with hot air gun and shrink wrap

As the name suggests, shrink film shrinks when heated – so when you heat the plastic film with a hot air gun, for example, it will shrink and mould to your product regardless of its design. This method is used, for example, to secure goods for transport and gives the goods good protection against the elements. Choose our shrink kit which, in addition to the hot air gun, also includes a trolley stand. Please note that shrink film is purchased separately.

Seal your bags with a bag sealer

A bag sealer offers a more industrial high-volume solution if you need to seal large quantities of bags quickly and easily. They are small and compact and fit almost anywhere. Spare parts kits can also be purchased, making it easy to maintain the machine. Tip: go for our bag sealing package where everything you need to get started is included: you get a bag sealer, stand, decoiler and table.
