Extra protection for the packaging of fragile shipments
Fragile shipments are those that contain items that can easily break or deteriorate due to a knock or simple rubbing. Glassware, white and brown goods, technological gadgets , furniture and decorative items and even foodstuffs are susceptible to damage if they are not properly protected during transport. With these five tips for packing fragile shipments, you can minimise the risks:
1. Choose double- or triple-channel cartons
Double-channel cardboard boxes have a lower risk of breakage from vertical or side impact, thus increasing the insulation of the contents from external aggression. For extremely fragile products (very thin glass, ultra-sensitive electronic devices, etc.) there is an even more reliable option: triple-channel cardboard boxes.
2. Neutralise voids with void-fill packaging
Filler and protective packaging helps fill the voids inside packages with a dual function: cushioning, to minimise vibrations reaching the products; and securing, to prevent them from moving. There are different types of fillers for fragile shipments, as well as two-in-one propositions, such as boxes and cases with built-in foam protection.
3. Warn of fragile contents with shipping labels
Shipping labels are essential for fragile shipments, alerting carriers and couriers to take extra care when handling packages, making it clear in which position they should be placed and whether or not they can be stacked.
4. Cover edges and corners with profiles and corner pieces
Mirrors, pictures, furniture, lamps, tiles or tiles will especially benefit from the use of profiles and corner pieces, which will keep edges and corners safe from scratches and gouges.
5. Use reinforced locking systems

Sensitive shipments are those containing high-value items: jewellery, works of art, luxury goods, bank cards or cheques, private documents… In short, objects that would be very costly or practically impossible to replace in the event of loss or theft. In these cases, it is usual to take out shipping insurance that obliges the carrier to compensate the receiver.
For sensitive shipments, it is also advisable to take other precautions to prevent theft that have to do with the preparation of the order:
- Use discreet packaging, which does not give outside clues about the contents.
- Use strapping to make it difficult to slip and to make it difficult to open, even partially, during delivery.
- Use opaque packaging, such as black stretch film or high-security plastic bags.
