How to win in a business relocation

2min read 07/11/2014

Whether it is moving some employees to the next office, or moving the whole company to another location several kilometres away, a company move is always a nuisance for everyone. Avoiding as much disruption as possible can be achieved if we organise ourselves properly and take into account a few tips

  • Plan the move in advance, everyone will be warned and you will avoid last minute worries and absent-mindedness.
  • Take advantage of the preparation of the move to get rid of unusable objects, it is not worth moving lots of things that are going to be thrown away at the destination (as well as increasing the cost unnecessarily).
  • If you have to move very heavy or bulky items, bear this in mind, you may need to use a pulley or dismantle a door to remove them (or when you arrive at the new destination).
  • Choose your packing and packagingwisely, as poor packing can cause damage to what you are transporting.
  • Start packing a few days in advance, first the things you use the least and then the items you use every day.
  • There are boxes of different sizes that can be adapted to almost any object, for example, there are specific boxes for transporting files.
  • If you have to move fragile items don’t forget bubble wrap, it’s easy to use and will prevent damage
  • Nor should you forget the adhesive tape to close your packaging so that it will hold up perfectly until you unpack it at your destination.

  • If you have to transport dismantled furniture, it is better to cover it with bubble wrap, as if you stick the adhesive tape directly on it, you could tear off the varnish.

  • Provide each employee with a marker pen to mark their boxes and write them all down in a list that will be perfect for keeping track of everything.
  • Label fragile boxes appropriately so that those moving your belongings are aware of them.
  • When you arrive at your destination, it is best to unpack the bulkiest objects first (cupboards, shelves, etc.) and then place the smaller items.

have you experienced a company move, what was your experience like and what would you recommend?
