[ES] Megasport, the importance of good packaging for packaging and protecting goods [RAJA® Customers].

In our customer testimonials section, we went to Megasport’s facilities and interviewed Sergi Gambús, its logistics director, to tell us about its business model and what role packaging plays in its strategy.

Megasport is a distribution company that was founded more than 30 years ago when David Vinyeta and Beatriz Molero, its founders, decided to combine their experience and passion for the world of skiing and mountaineering with fashion and design. Today Megasport is an exclusive distributor of clothing and equipment brands for outdoor sports. In addition, it has diversified its product offer with other types of articles such as footwear and casual clothing.

They also have their own website where they sell their products, collaborate with other websites and are promoting their own shops under the brand name M+ store, specialising in mountaineering.

Sergi welcomes us to Megasport’s 2,500 m2 warehouse, where he tells us about some of their logistics figures for this year:

  • More than 500,000 items and 20,000 references in stock.
  • 30,000 shipments have left their warehouse, which exceeds 50,000 packages.
  • They have a permanent staff of 15 people in the warehouse which is reinforced at peak times by up to 40 people.

Sergi, with these figures, and bearing in mind that from where we are you ship to Spain, Portugal and Andorra, how important is packaging within your logistics strategy?

Packaging is fundamentalPackaging is essential for protection, for stuffing, for reducing incidents… Let me give you an example: skis. When you put a ski in a box, it generates a lot of space that has to be filled to prevent the box from being full of air, and the box has more packaging so that we can palletise it and it leaves here with a total guarantee that it will reach our customer in perfect condition.

Also, when we have a lot of product in the same box, we are interested in packing it with padding to prevent the products from hitting each other.

In addition, due to the increase in one of Megasport’s business areas, which is the opening of our own shops, we have generated a significant volume of reverse logistics, which means that it is important for us to pack the articles, put them in plastic bags, pack them perfectly and then send them back to our customers in perfect condition.

Also, in the context of introducing or improving the sustainability of our shipments, we are introducing the gummed band, which is giving us great results and we will continue to develop new products with RAJA®.

We have been working together for several years now, what would you highlight about the relationship with RAJA?

Well, basically it has an enormous range of packaging catalogue and I would say that we can find practically everything we need there. From the filling paper, bags… but whatever we need, we can always find it. And what is most important for me is the advice that is behind it.

Behind any need you have, you call, you talk, they advise you with a lot of affection, with a lot of dedication, with everything you need, without rushing. You notice that they help you find the best solution.
