Cinta adhesiva de embalaje: la guía definitiva

4minutos de lectura 22 Nov 2021

Adhesive packaging tape is an essential product in the day-to-day running of a business. In any moving or storage process, adhesive tape allows the different load units to be properly sealed to ensure safe handling.

Adhesive packaging tape comes in rolls consisting of three components:

  • Tape, a material used to cover the openings on different surfaces.
  • Adhesive material or glue.
  • Mandrel, support around which the tape is wound for easy storage and dispensing.

How to choose the right adhesive tape, what requirements should be taken into account to get the most out of it, and how to apply it correctly? With the definitive guide to RAJA® packaging tape you will find the answers to all your questions.

Customised adhesive tape: a packaging and communication solution

Rajaprint, RAJA®’s packaging customisation service, gives you the opportunity to design your own customised adhesive tape tailored to your business. Using an intuitive online configuration tool, you can choose colours, as well as add images, pictograms and text.

The customised adhesive tape has a triple function:

  • Internal organisation code. Having tapes with different external appearances makes it easier for operators to identify at a glance which format to use for each need.
  • Information tool for messaging. Printing alerts about the fragility of the contents, the correct positioning of packages or other characteristics gives delivery companies clues about how to handle packages.
  • Marketing and communication tool. Personalised adhesive tapes enhance the customer experience and promote brand recall.

Good practice in the application of adhesive packaging tape

To ensure maximum adhesion and durability, as well as to save time in order preparation, it is advisable to follow good practices in the use of adhesive packaging tape. RAJA® advises you to consider the following points:

Tips for handling adhesive packaging tape

An essential consumable in packing stations, adhesive tape should be used at an ambient temperature above 10ºC on a clean, dry surface.

  • In cold environments, polypropylene tapes with natural rubber adhesive or gummed paper tapes are preferable.
  • In warm environments, polypropylene tapes with acrylic glue and, again, gummed kraft tapes perform best.

Application tips for adhesive packaging tape

While some packaging tape formats are convenient for manual application, when productivity and speed are important, tape dispensers are the way to go. These devices speed up unwinding, cutting and taping without the need for cutters or scissors.

To position the packaging tape correctly, carefully stretch it over the desired area while maintaining tension and fix it by exerting light pressure with the help of the dispenser. Remember that certain types of adhesive will not tolerate repositioning, and that removing them will cause tears in the cardboard.

American boxes can be closed using different adhesive tape techniques. See our post on the different closure systems for cardboard boxes.

Tips for the conservation of adhesive tape

The shelf life of a roll of adhesive packaging tape is about six months, up to one year for tapes with acrylic glue, after delivery from the supplier. Supplies should be stored at a temperature of between 15 and 25°C, with a maximum ambient humidity of 65%. Failing this, it is advisable to move the adhesive tape to a heated room 24 hours before use.
