Celebrating the 65th anniversary of the RAJA Group

Our company was founded in 1954, initially as a small company called RAJA Cartons selling new and reusable boxes by a couple of enterprising women, Rachel and Janine, which has grown to become an independent, family-owned European group, specialising and leading in the distribution of business supplies and equipment.

Since its creation in 1955, the RAJA Group has been growing and reinventing itself, constantly innovating and adapting its offer and services to meet the needs of companies of all sizes and sectors of activity. Let’s take a look at the main key periods in our history!

1954: Creation of RAJA Cartons in Paris

Rachel Marcovici creates the company, together with her partner Janine Rocher. The acronym of the two names results in the company name. Janine leaves the company the following year but Maurice, Rachel’s husband, joins to ensure the management

1970: Product innovation makes the difference

The company grows and creates its range of innovative packaging, some of which are still indispensable today, such as the RAJAPOST box and the RAJA® padded envelope.

In 1968, the company moves to Rue Rampal in the Bellevine district, the first warehouse is built in 195 in the Gonesse industrial zone.

1980: The catalogue, a new relationship with the customers

Danièle Kapel-Marcovici, Rachel and Maurice’s daughter, takes over the management of the company and launches catalogue sales with guaranteed prices and quantity discounts, a major innovation in packaging distribution!

The telephone sales team is professionalised and the field sales team expands throughout France.

1990: The whole range, everywhere, immediately!

RAJA Cartons becomes RAJA. The company delivers its 4,000 products in stock throughout France within 24/48h. The 300-strong team moves to a new site in Roissy with a 43,000m2 distribution centre.

The international adventure begins with the acquisition of BINPAC in Belgium, AID-PACK in the UK and the creation of RAJAPACK in Germany in 1999.

2000-2010: All packaging in 1 click!

The website is launched in France and offers a wide range of 6,000 packs, unique in Europe, with new product diversifications: handling, storage, catering and hygiene equipment.

The European adventure continues with the acquisition and creation of new companies (11 new countries!)

2010-2020: A new dimension

In 2015 MORPLAN is acquired, in 2017 the UDO BÄR Group and in 2019 JPG, Mondoffice, Kalamazoo Bernard. In addition, the company reinforces its EcoResponsible commitment and aims to be a driving force in the ecological transition.

aware of the environmental challenges, RAJA® wants to play a leading role in the ecological transition of packaging. In 2019, this initiative was rewarded with the Packaging Oscar for stretch film made of 80% recycled plastic!
