When to use plastic boxes instead of boxes to store goods?

2min read 18/04/2023

In storage a wide range of goods, there are many situations and circumstances where it is clearly worth choosing plastic boxes over cardboard boxes. Find out when to reach for practical plastic packaging, which can handle moisture, pests and fragile goods more effectively than cardboard in specific conditions.

Not in your power to ensure ideal storage conditions, such as dryness or rodent safety? Do you need to store fragile items or raw materials without the risk of damage? Simply choose suitable plastic boxes.

Don’t let the damp environment win

If storage areas are exposed to increased humidity, whether unheated/unventilated areas (garages, underground spaces, cellars, halls) or areas with increased air humidity (catering facilities, food processing plants), use plastic boxes. In the battle on behalf of moisture insulation, they are the clear winner over cardboard boxes.

You can choose from many types of boxes of different dimensions with regard to specific goods. Whether you reach for stackable euro crates, transparent universal boxes with lids, shelf trays or plastic crates with a grid, you’ll have everything you need in a dry place.

Fragile goods safe

Do you store glassware, china, electronics, decorations or other goods prone to damage? Crates made of durable plastic reliably help you ensure their safety and durability.

What’s more, they allow you to make the most of the space without risking damage to the stored items, as you can stack them easily and conveniently without worrying about the deformation of the packaging that can occur with cardboard boxes – especially if the contents are heavier.

Mice and other pests don’t stand a chance

If you need to protect goods (textiles, food raw materials, paper products, electronic components, etc.) from unwanted visitors in the form of rodents or moths, we recommend using plastic boxes with lid. They are much more resistant to biting or penetration by insects than cardboard boxes. In addition, they eliminate contamination of both boxes and goods by mould and fungi.

Moving

If you need to store clothes, books, kitchen utensils and other household or business equipment for a short period of time, and if you are sure of suitable storage conditions (dry, pest-free…), traditional, cost-effective moving boxes.

  • The advantage of cardboard boxes is their reasonable price, light weight and wide range of sizes (from small boxes for electronics to large wardrobe boxes). They are also easily degradable and recyclable.
  • Plastic boxes are particularly useful for long-term storage in less than ideal conditions, protecting fragile and more valuable items. They are long lasting, easy to clean and can be used repeatedly over long periods. And not just in the context of moving.
