[SK] How to pack larger parcels? The size of storage boxes is key

2min read 03/05/2024

Do you run an e-shop? Then you know that packing bulkier shipments can be a hassle. However, it’s important to protect against damage during transit and a properly packed package is also easier to handle with a suitable box.

When packing larger shipments, you can’t do without this trinity:

  • Storage boxes: available in a wide range of sizes and materials, from cardboard to durable plastic. For heavy items, it’s recommended to choose boxes with double walls and bottoms.
  • Europallets: should not be missing in any warehouse. Thanks to the standard design and dimensions of europallets, they can be handed over to the transport company immediately.
  • Adhesive tape: It is essential for securing the boxes. For heavy packages, we recommend using polypropylene (PP) adhesive tape – it has exceptional strength and tear resistance.

How to select the material of the boxes

The cardboard box is the standard – and you certainly can’t go wrong with it. If you’re looking for an even more durable solution, especially for storing goods, you can reach for plywood containers, wooden pallet frames or plastic boxes and euro crates.

Adapt the dimensions of the box to the euro pallets

When choosing a box, it is important to consider the dimensions of the product you want to pack. The box should be of a suitable size to fit the product easily, but should not be unnecessarily bulky to avoid wasting space.

RAJA tip: A useful tool is the box finder according to the chosen size.

When packing large quantities of products on a pallet, it plays an important role that the dimensions of the pallets and boxes match. In the shop you will therefore find a special category called “folding pallet boxes”. Their advantage is that you can stack them side by side on the pallet and not a single piece will overlap.

How to properly pack a larger shipment or pallet?

  • Line boxes with fragile items with enough lining to protect the products and prevent the package from denting.
  • Wrap the package with packing tape on the flap and at the joints. You can also tape the edges of the parcel for added strength.
  • If you are transporting a full pallet, make sure that the packages do not overhang anywhere.
  • Secure the boxes to the pallet with stretch film or tape.
  • Place heavier goods at the bottom and in the middle.

Don’t skimp on the quality of the boxes and tape

Packing and transporting larger loads need not be a problem. With the right sized boxes made from quality materials, combined with polypropylene tape and careful packing, even the bulkier shipments will arrive safely at their destination.
