Why are warning labels affixed to packages and what are their types? What are indicators?
The purpose of warning labels on shipments is to inform the carrier to handle the shipment with care. This information can also be found directly on the box or on the packaging warning tape. It should be borne in mind that the carrier may charge an additional handling fee when using such a label.
Warning labels on parcels
To properly secure a shipment, it is not enough to simply wrap it in rigid packaging and secure it with padding. It must also be marked with warning labels. These become very important if the item being shipped is glass or another fragile item that can be damaged during transit (e.g. ceramics, electronics…).
The labels are large enough to be clearly visible and contain clear and legible writing. They have distinctive colours – usually red, white, black and yellow. They are weather-resistant and, thanks to the high quality adhesive, adhere perfectly to the surface. The symbols on them are universal, so they can be used not only for national but also for international shipments.
Types of warning labels on parcels
The basic labels you may encounter are:
These labels are designed for shipping not only glass items, but also any fragile items that can be damaged.
They are mandatory for the transport of liquid substances.
- KEEP DRY
Labels designed for transporting goods that could be damaged by moisture.
- DANGEROUS PRODUCT
This type of labels informs about the hazardousness of the products being transported. They are intended for all modes of transport (sea, air, rail and road).
- DO NOT STACK
It is not recommended to stack consignments with this marking.
Instead of warning labels, warning tapes can also be used, which have the same function.
Tilt indicator
In addition to warning labels, you can also purchase a special Tilwatch tilt indicator from RAJA. You can be assured of a quality fixing by the use of high-quality 3M adhesive tape, which is suitable for cardboard and wooden surfaces. The use of this indicator again significantly increases the security of your shipment. How does it work? You stick the indicator on the parcel and the addressee checks the result after receiving it. The red colour of the indicator indicates that the load has tilted 90° or more during transit. In this case, you have the option to make a claim on the delivery invoice.
Moisture indicator
Themoisture indicator finds its use when transporting products that are sensitive to moisture. These are, for example, metals, electronics, optical instruments and others. The instructions for use are very simple. Simply place the indicator in the package being transported and if there is an increase in humidity, its colour will change and you can simply read off the level of humidity reached.
