Celebrating Earth Day with RAJA

3min read 31/03/2023

Dear customers and readers,

Every year on April 22, we commemorate Earth Day. A day that should remind us that the planet we live on is unique and that we should take better care of it.

Project ECOcalendar

Due to the activities of the RAJA Group and our focus on sustainability and environmental protection, on the occasion of the upcoming Earth Day we joined a new project of the association UkliďmeČesko. This is a unique project EKOkalendarwhich aims to introduce the general public to international days and holidays for the protection of the environment and endangered animal species. The authors of the EKOcalendar have collected more than 150 such holidays. Some are declared by the United Nations, most are global, some are European and others are only local. RAJA has become a patron of the just mentioned Earth Day. We are very happy that we could get involved and support their activities and awareness.

History of Earth Day

How did this holiday actually come about? More than 50 years ago, on April 22, 1970, more than 20 million people gathered in various locations across the United States to demonstrate for a healthier environment. This campaign was to push for new environmental laws and to force these issues into the political debate. The campaign was well received and resulted in the creation of Earth Day, which is celebrated worldwide as an international environmental holiday on 22 April each year. Since 1990 it has also been celebrated in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

RAJA and the environment

Protecting the environment is one of the fundamental commitments of our society. Packaging and the environment are strategic issues for our Group. We want to optimise the consumption of packaging material and therefore take an active and sustainable approach to reducing negative environmental impacts. We know that packaging is essential for the protection, safe transport and delivery of all products in an undamaged condition. Without proper packaging, products are often broken and damaged, creating unnecessary waste. However, today’s challenge is not only to pack well, but also to pack more environmentally friendly. So how can we reduce waste and package products in a more environmentally friendly way? We at RAJA offer you 5 packaging principles:

  1. REDUCTION – by choosing the right size of packaging, you reduce both its consumption and weight.
  2. REUSABILITY – some packaging has been made to be easily resealed with an adhesive strip or to withstand continuous use.
  3. REPLACEMENT – replace packaging that is not recyclable or has a significant negative impact on the environment.
  4. RESTORE – the use of packaging based on bio-based raw materials contributes positively to reducing the impact on nature.
  5. RECYCLING – we should try to make the most of our resources to give packaging a second life.

RAJA-Danièle Marcovici Foundation

In 2006, a foundation was created within the RAJA Group, bearing the name of our President and CEO, Danièle Marcovici. The Foundation supports projects aimed at improving women’s living conditions and protecting the environment. Since September 2015, there has been a Women and the Environment programme, in which “ecologically responsible” packaging is also a gesture of solidarity. RAJA has selected several eco-friendly products, the purchase of which will support the above-mentioned projects. For every pack purchased under this offer, €1 is donated to the foundations. The Foundation will then use the money collected to support the selected projects.
