Ecological packaging is becoming increasingly popular. They may not look as glamorous as non-organic ones, but they are better for the environment. What packaging and accessories are the most popular?
Eco-friendly gift wrapping is trendy, as is anything that makes a positive contribution to the environment. It is therefore worth switching to using eco-friendly packaging, including for gift wrapping.
Why switch to eco-friendly gift wrapping?
Ecological packaging includes those made from: paper, glass, sugar cane, vegetable starch (corn, potato, soya), biopolymers, leaves (bamboo/palm). Gift packaging is usually made of paper and cardboard. Being made of natural materials, they are safe for the environment, as well as for people. They can be recycled, i.e. reused. They are also most often made from some percentage of recycled materials.
Why use them? Because it helps to reduce the amount of plastic in the environment and to reduce carbon emissions and waste production. Eco-friendly packaging can be recycled or composted. They can also be reused many times.
Eco-friendly gift packaging and accessories – top 10
Among others, the following are worth using for eco-friendly gift packaging: paper bags, wrapping paper, cardboard boxes, paper ribbons, sisal packing twine, cardboard bottle packaging, cardboard envelopes, cardboard tubes, book wrappers and Flo-pak eco-friendly parcel filler.
Paper bags are the most popular method of eco-friendly packaging. They come in many variants. They are made of natural Kraft paper, have internal reinforcements and side tabs, so you can adjust their width. They have strong handles, either made of woven paper or twisted.
Wrapping paper is making a comeback, although it used to be associated more with food packaging. It can be used as an alternative to decorative paper, using equally eco-friendly embellishments such as sisal string, raffia or paper ribbons. It is fully biodegradable and designed to be recycled. It comes in sheets and rolls. It is anti-static and opaque.
Cardboard boxes are also a very popular method of gift wrapping. You can choose from many sizes and types. The most ecological and practical, as they serve a variety of purposes, are boxes with adjustable height and automatic bottoms. They are made from up to 70% recycled material.
For decorating gift packaging, paper ribbons with a natural raffia effect can be used, as well as packing sisal twine made from natural fibre – it is made from 100% recycled material.
Glass bottles can be packaged in specially designed cardboard bottle boxes, which have compartments to prevent breakage.
For packing smaller items, especially for shipping them, cardboard envelopes are recommended (if a box is not necessary). For shipping fragile items, it is advisable to choose those with a bubble insert.
Cardboard tubes are great for packaging gifts such as posters, artwork and other such items that can be rolled up. The tube can be nicely decorated with ribbon or string.
For the packaging of books and discs, including their shipping, the so called wrappers, which are cardboard packaging that can be adapted to the contents, are best suited. They are indispensable in any online bookshop.
The eco-friendly Flo-pak parcel filler, as well as a paper filler or cardboard sleeve, is useful for securing and also decorating the gift being sent. Flo-pak filler is made from 100% corn starch and is therefore completely biodegradable when exposed to water and air, without producing any harmful substances.
