[PL] How to pack a mug for shipping?

7min read 22/06/2023

Online shops are associated with a variety of activities – from books and clothes to handmade products, e.g. ceramic mugs, decorative glasses, porcelain tableware. Shipping such delicate products requires strong and durable packaging materials. How should a mug be packed and protected for shipment?

How do you pack and secure mugs for shipping?

A mug is a rather fragile item that can quickly become damaged in transit – if it has been inadequately packed and secured. This is the basis for safely transporting and handling ceramic or glass items. Knowing how to pack fragile items is extremely important and useful at many times.

Packing a mug for shipping – basic ways

A mug can be packed in two ways – in a traditional cardboard box (similar in size to the item being transported) or in a special mug box. Invest only in cardboard boxes that have been made of thick multilayer cardboard (e.g. 3-layer corrugated cardboard, 5-layer cardboard). This box is the most important protection against external factors and mechanical damage. Second place is held by other, equally important products – parcel fillers, bubble and stretch film, adhesive tapes, and many others.

How do I secure a cup for shipping?

Theelement that needs special attention when securing a mug is its ears. This is the most vulnerable part of the vessel – in case of impacts or other perturbations. The ears should be carefully wrapped in bubble wrap several times. This is an excellent shock and impact absorber – thanks to the presence of air bubbles, which are great at absorbing vibrations and preventing potential impacts from penetrating the structure of the cup. However, it doesn’t stop there. You should also surround the entire cup (on each side) with an extra layer of bubble wrap. The thicker the layer of this material, the better. The result will be a compressed, slightly transparent wrapper.

Itis also a good idea to protect the inside of the cup. This does not have to be bubble wrap. You can use rolled up wrapping paper or bits of old newspapers.

What to fill the mug carton with?

You already know how to pack a mug. You also know the basic ways to secure this vessel. But that’s not all. The empty space between the bubble wrap and the carton walls must be filled to the maximum. So-called parcel fillers will help to do this. The most popular types are – zero surprise here – bubble wrap, skropak, flopak, SizzlePak, ecological air cushions, wrapping paper, wood wool. If you don’t have access to specialised materials, you can also use crumpled up old newspapers.

The choice of parcel filler depends on individual preference. It is a good idea to read the specifications of each beforehand, then choose the one you think will best protect your mug parcel.

How to pack a mug? Help from RAJA

RAJA, as a leading company in the packaging industry, is committed to ecology, to vegetation, to pleasing nature. The cardboard boxes – both regular and decorative – are made of ecological, recycled cardboard. At RAJA, it is impossible to be bored. Look out for cardboard boxes in various sizes, decorative boxes and all the extras needed to properly pack a courier parcel – even with such an inconspicuous content as a mug.

How to pack a mug? How do I protect the outside of the cardboard box with the mug?

The cardboard box that contains the mug is exposed not only to mechanical damage, but also to moisture. The best protection against potential contact with water is stretch film. Its application is very simple: simply wrap the carton with it several times.

When packing the cup (and any other glass or ceramic object), do not forget to seal the package properly. You will need packing tape. It is best to wrap it on all sides of the package, focusing especially on the edges and the opening (both top and bottom). Remember that if a cardboard box is well sealed, its valuable contents are safe.

Final additions, which are better not omitted in the case of fragile, delicate items, are special warning labels (the most common is: “Caution, glass!”). They provide information to the courier, sorters and warehousemen that there is a valuable item inside the parcel which should be handled with care. Sticking an inconspicuous warning label on the parcel increases the chances that the mug will reach the addressee intact.

Packing mugs for gifts – what does it look like in practice?

Mugs, as the contents of a parcel, are most often sent by e-commerce companies fulfilling their customers’ orders. Many people order crockery and tableware as a gift for the person of their choice. They count on the online shop to send the mug in decorative packaging. One of the simplest decorative containers is an aesthetically pleasing tube with a lid – such that it fits perfectly into any mug. The inside of such a package can be filled with decorative fillers, such as SizzlePak.

Packing a mug for mailing in decorative paper or cellophane – what’s involved?

How do you pack a mug in gift paper? Find the design that suits your taste best. At RAJA, you can find a wide range of decorative papers – from classic ones with a Christmas theme to glittering ones with glitter. Decorative box with lid

Another example of decorative packaging for a mug is the classic yet colourful cardboard box with a resealable lid. Its interior can be filled with natural raffia (a nice, effective cushioning and filler). A mug in a cardboard box should also be wrapped in bubble wrap.

Set of mugs – a versatile gift

If a customer orders several mugs as a gift, a larger die-cut cardboard box will be useful for this combination. The set of dishes needs to be surrounded by bubble wrap. It is good if they have their original, decorative packaging. Then you simply fill the empty space with SizzlePak and wrap the whole parcel with a decorative bow.

Gift baskets – another place for decorative mugs

Ceramic decorative mugs can be given to contractors, customers or employees in the form of gift baskets (other typical gifts here are glass bottles, candle jars, chocolates and other sweets, calendars). When deciding to do this, you need to acquire knowledge of how to package gift baskets for clients.

Not just ceramics. How to pack glass mugs, glasses, jars?

Packing glass items (including mugs made of this material) requires precise action, delicacy. Not only traditional items (cardboard boxes, parcel fillers, bubble wrap, stretch film, adhesive tape, warning stickers) will come in handy:
