Dreaming of your own clothing brand? Gather information on how to create your clothing brand. In this guide, we explain where to start and what to keep in mind when deciding to start a new business.

Where do you start when creating a clothing brand?

Wondering how to create a clothing brand? Answer the questions: why do you want to do it, to whom will you be offering your products, how will they stand out from your competitors’ offerings?

Research the market and only then deal with the formalities, marketing, defining sales channels and logistics. Your strategy should include brand identity, finding a manufacturer and even selecting printed packaging. Just as when making clothes, the overall design as well as the details are important when creating a brand.

Conduct market research

Not sure how to create your own clothing brand? The first step is a competitive analysis. Perform it in several steps:

  • Identify your competitors – both direct and indirect. The first group includes companies offering products similar to yours, aimed at the same audience. The second are brands whose profile is different from yours, but can still compete with you, such as large clothing shops.
  • Analyse youroffer – check when your competitors have recently offered new products to customers and what their bestsellers are.
  • Research your online presence – look at your competitors’ websites and their social media profiles. Track customer reviews.
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses – consider what is missing from a company’s offering and what is its greatest asset.

Define your brand vision

If you are building a clothing brand, you need to know what you are aiming for. It’s not just about selling clothes. What do you want to change in the industry, what is your niche, how will your brand be perceived in a few years’ time, does your branding relate to a cultural or environmental mission? These are the most important questions to ask yourself. Your brand vision should consist of values, inspiration, purpose and emotion.

How do you create a fashion brand? Identify your target audience

Define your target audience – the people you are creating your products for. Their age, gender, social status, lifestyle, interests and location are important. Consider what the needs and expectations of these people are.

Time for a unique selling proposition

A unique selling proposition (USP) is what will set you apart from clothing brands. Do you have something to offer your customers that your competitors lack? You certainly do! Maybe it’s natural materials, clothes designed in Poland or the option to personalise your garments? Let the USP accompany your brand from the beginning: refer to it when designing your logo and coming up with your company name.

How do you create your own clothing brand from the formal side?

Look for someone to take care of your company’s accounts and check the regulations for running this kind of business. Think about the form of taxation and register your business, and if you want to protect your logo and company name, apply to the Patent Office.

Designing your collection

Depending on your budget and your concept, design the clothes yourself or have a specialist do it for you. Determine the style of the garments you offer – the design must be consistent with your brand vision.

Garment production

Suppliers of fabrics and other materials, a sewing shop, a clothing printer – these are the most important things to consider. Make prototypes to start with, so you can check the quality of the products.

Composition marking and labelling of garments

Each garment should be labelled with its composition, country of manufacture and care instructions. It is up to you whether this is printed or sewn onto the garment. It is important that it is clear and in line with your brand identity. Also find out how to pack your garments for shipment so they don’t get crumpled and how to make deliveries.

Sales channels

You can sell your products in the traditional way or online. The first option puts you in direct contact with your customers, but also costs more. The second gives you the opportunity to reach a wider audience. At the same time, you need to take care of the positioning of your shop on the web and the smooth shipping of your products.

Marketing and advertising

You will acquire customers in various ways. Attending industry meetings, campaigns in the press and on television, spreading your brand online – to name just a few. How about eco-friendly packaging with an advertising slogan, storytelling, influencer marketing? Decide on a few activities and you will increase your chances of success.

Sales and logistics

Another important consideration is the storage and shipping of products. You can store them at home, in a rented warehouse or opt for the services of an external company. Don’t forget details such as packaging. Buy sturdy clothes boxesespecially if you sell thicker garments such as jackets or coats.

Create a recognisable brand that will bring in the expected profits

In theory, you already know how to create your own clothing brand. Remember, the key to success is action. A good plan is essential, but if it remains only in your head, no one will be convinced by your ideas.

Also note that it is not only the products themselves that matter, but also how they are packaged. So make sure the materials are high quality and aesthetically pleasing. Include a prominent print that will increase your brand recognition. Not sure how to choose the right packaging for your business?
