[PL] How do I send a parcel by DPD courier from home?

7min read 22/06/2023

Recently, sending parcels from one’s address has become increasingly popular. No wonder – the sender does not have to leave his home at all to send a parcel to the addressee. One of the most interesting and advantageous courier companies is DPD. In this article, we will answer the question “how to send a parcel by DPD courier from home”.

What services does DPD courier offer?

DPD, like any other courier company, deals with the delivery of various courier parcels (not only cardboard boxes, but also envelopes with documents, pallets). It allows you to send standard and cash on delivery parcels. Shipping can take place in three ways.

The first option is to post a parcel at a DPD location from where it will be delivered to the recipient. Another option is to post your parcel with a courier and have it delivered to a DPD point. The last and most popular option is to post your parcel with a courier who will deliver it straight to the addressee. This is probably the most favourable answer to the question “how to send a parcel by DPD courier from home”.

Additional services with DPD courier

The couriercompany DPD delivers parcels on the territory of Poland and 25 European countries. Additional services it offers include:

  • The possibility to deliver a parcel on Saturday,
  • Reservation of the delivery time,
  • Additional parcel insurance (standard, default is up to PLN 1000),
  • Repackaging or storage of the parcel,
  • Transport of a parcel weighing up to 150 kg to the recipient’s flat,
  • Addressing of the parcel,
  • SMS notification of parcel delivery.

Sending a parcel by DPD courier from home – how does it work?

The courier company DPD gives you the opportunity to send a parcel by courier from home, from the comfort of your own armchair. The first step is to fill in the appropriate form, located on the website of this carrier. It is necessary to indicate to which country the parcel will be sent, as well as its size. The sender must enter his or her details and those of the recipient (name, address, telephone, e-mail). The next stage is very important – you need to specify whether the parcel will be delivered to a selected DPD point or whether the courier should come and deliver it to the addressee.

It is also important to specify the parameters of the parcel (weight, dimensions, insurance value). You should also specify the shape and type of packaging – standard or non-standard. The former is a typical cardboard box in the shape of a cuboid, properly secured, sealed with adhesive tape. Sending a non-standard parcel (non-standard packaging) involves double (at least) the cost of the standard option. Such shipments are defined as: cylindrical, oval, spherical, deformed, with uneven edges, with protruding elements. Interestingly, this also includes parcels wrapped in stretch film or other film, making them difficult to move. Generally speaking, according to DPD’s rules, a non-standard parcel is one that cannot be subjected to machine sorting and must be treated specially.

A DPD courier arrives at the sending person’s home and collects the parcel. Everything is done on the chosen day and often even at a specific hour. He then passes the parcel on for onward national or international transport. A shipping label with important data must be placed on the package. To be sure, the recipient can also put his or her data directly on the parcel.

How do I send a parcel by DPD courier from home? How do I pack my parcel?

Before you send your DPD parcel, you need to pack and secure it properly. It is very important – if the courier discovers that the parcel is unfit for shipment or has been incorrectly described (e.g. has the dimensions and parameters of a non-standard parcel, while it was specified and paid for as a standard parcel), he may refuse to collect it.

The best packaging for items is cardboard boxes of various sizes and strengths (usually made of 3-layer, 5-layer or 7-layer cardboard). This product perfectly protects the inside of the parcel from dirt, moisture (at least in part), mechanical damage and external factors. Together with professional parcel fillers, it absorbs part of the shock energy. What are these fillers? They are different types of materials that fill the free space between the item being transported and the edges of the carton. The most common parcel fillers are: scropak, flopak, decorative SizzlePak, ecological air cushions, crumpled old newspapers and – last but not least – bubble wrap. If the contents are extremely delicate and fragile (e.g. glass, ceramics), they can be additionally surrounded by bubble wrap several times.

Strong adhesive tape (e.g. packing tape) is useful for closing the parcel. Depending on your needs, you can surround the parcel with stretch film – this is particularly useful if it will be following sea transport, exposed to moisture. Finally, stick special warning labels (e.g. “Caution, glass”, “Top/bottom”) on the carton to inform sorters and the courier of the fragile contents of the parcel.

Exemplary packing and protection of a courier parcel – only at RAJA

TheRAJA online shop enables you to pack your parcel tightly, firmly for shipment by DPD courier. There is no shortage of different cardboard boxes (e.g. cartons with automatic bottoms, height-adjustable cartons, reinforced cartons, flat cartons). Those interested may be interested in fillers such as flopak or SizzlePak. Bubble wrap and stretch wrap are the flagship products of the packaging industry, which could not be missing from the wholesaler. At RAJA you will find various types of warning labels as well as tapes (e.g. packaging tape).

Sending a parcel by DPD courier from home – decorative packaging

Every gift, small gift should be properly packed, decorated with various elements, e.g. bows, natural raffia, ribbons, decorative strings. Fillers that must necessarily appear inside an elegant box are SizzlePak, wood wool (wiolin).

What else can you do? How do you pack your parcel nicely? Choose decorative cut (die-cut) and die-cut cardboard boxes. Most of them can be printed and personalised – just the way you dream of.

The decorative parcel can also be sent to the recipient via DPD courier, straight from home. Everything is done identically as in one of the past paragraphs. If you want to protect the elegant cardboard box, you can put it in a larger, traditional, flap cardboard box – the packaging will provide effective protection against mechanical damage (e.g. fall from heights), moisture, dirt and UV radiation.

Sending a parcel without a cardboard box – is it possible with DPD courier?

Wondering if it is possible to send a parcel without a cardboard box via DPD courier? Yes, it is – by all means – possible. There are various alternatives to cardboard boxes, e.g. bubble envelopes, foil packs. The transported items can also sometimes be sent directly, surrounded only by airtight packaging materials, e.g. stretch foil, wrapping paper.

Not only by DPD courier. Sending a parcel via Parcel Machine

Paczkomomat InPost, admittedly, requires some distance to be covered. However, there is no denying that more and more Parcel Machines are being placed in cities and towns, so the route from your home to one should not take long. It may not be as convenient as sending a parcel by DPD courier from home, but it still has many advantages.

Each Parcel Post has a number of boxes in three sizes (Gabaryt A, B, C). In each of these you place a parcel of the appropriate size – so that the package can fit into the box without any problems. The first group includes cartons measuring 8 x 38 x 64 cm (height/width/depth). Group B comprises much larger packages – cardboard boxes up to a maximum size of 19 x 38 x 64 cm. Group C (the largest box) is for parcels of no more than 41 x 38 x 64 cm in size. The maximum weight of a parcel for an InPost Parcel Machine is 25 kg.
