Learn about the different types of parcel fillers and pack safely.

Often, but not always, it is necessary to use a parcel filler to package a product. This is to protect the contents of the parcel from movement within the packaging and possible mechanical damage. What types of fillers are available and why use eco parcel fillers?

Parcel fillers are needed in every online shop, especially those with a range of products that may be damaged during transport. What do you use to secure parcels?

Types of parcel fillers

In the RAJA shop you can buy several types of carton fillers. These include:

  • bubble wrap
  • air-filled cushions
  • protective polyethylene foam
  • eco-friendly parcel fillers (Flo-pak, wrapping paper, Sizzlepak).

Bubble foil and air-filled pillows

Bubble wrap (bubble wrap) effectively protects the goods being shipped from shocks and scratches and external factors (moisture, dirt, chemicals). It is waterproof and very durable. It can have large or small blisters. It is sold in a roll, with or without perforations. It also comes in the form of pouches – also with a self-adhesive closure. It is used for shipping glass products, books, furniture, household appliances and white goods. Air-filled cushions are also an effective filler for parcels.

Protective polyethylene foam

Polyethylene (PE) foam is ideal for protecting delicate surfaces. It is very soft and durable – protecting the contents of the parcel from scratches. It is sold in sheet or roll without perforations or with perforations in the tray. Anti-static foam pouches for packing small products are also available.

Ecological parcel fillers

Eco-friendly carton fillers include Flo-pak Natural and Green. This is a chip filler made from 100% corn starch. It is completely biodegradable in 9-60 months when exposed to water and air, producing no toxic substances. It is suitable for composting. It is durable and strong – used to secure heavier objects. It has up to 5 times better anti-static properties than polystyrene chips.

An eco-friendly filler for parcels is also wrapping paper. It is sold in various forms – in rolls, flat packets, and also in convenient packs with a feeder. It is made of 80 g/m2 paper. It is made from natural raw materials and is 100% recyclable.

Another type of eco parcel filler is Sizzlepak. This is a very efficient and 100% eco-friendly filler. These are paper fibres in the form of zigzag shreds that hold their shape and resist crushing, so that the contents of the parcel are immobilised and protected. The zigzag shreds consist of 2 layers of 80 g/m2 anti-static wrapping paper. They are supplied in compressed form – when shaken, they take their proper shape – each fibre doubles in volume.

Sizzlepak can be used not only to protect a parcel from damage, but also as decoration for corporate gifts, candles, glassware, china, cosmetics, baskets of fruit, sweets, fritters.

Eco-friendly parcel fillers are made from recycled materials and can be recycled again after use. It is therefore worth using them instead of non-ecological ones, and even better to invest in a cardboard cutter.

Cardboard cutters – the way to even more ecological and cost-effective packaging

How to pack ecologically and economically? By using a carton cutting machine. What is it? It is a machine that converts used cardboard packaging into parcel fillers. It allows you to turn unwanted cardboard into completely free material. Not only can you get parcel fillers completely free of charge, but on top of that, it complies with the idea of zero waste and you don’t have to worry about disposing of cardboard boxes. Depending on how many parcels a company sends out per day, the cost of buying a carton cutter will pay for itself within a few months. After that, the use of the machine will only bring benefits.

The machine cuts small and soft metal parts such as staples. There are two models to choose from – table-top and wheeled. The former is designed for cartons made of three- and five-ply cardboard and the latter for cartons made of three-, five- and seven-ply cardboard.
