Guide to warning stickers for parcels

2min read 17/12/2020

Why are warning stickers applied to parcels and what types of stickers are there? What is a tipping indicator?

Warning stickers on parcels are intended to inform the carrier to handle the parcel with care. Such information can also be found directly on the box or on the warning packing tape. Please note that if such a sticker is used, the carrier may charge an additional fee for handling the parcel.

Parcel warning stickers

In order to secure a parcel properly, it is not enough to pack it in solid packaging and secure it inside (for example with parcel filler). It must also be properly marked with warning stickers. This is extremely important when the item to be shipped is glass, but also something delicate that can be damaged in transit (e.g. ceramics, electronics).

The stickers are large so that they are clearly visible and contain clear, legible messages. They have striking colours – usually red, white, black and yellow. They are weatherproof and, thanks to a good adhesive, adhere perfectly to surfaces. The symbols on them are universal, so they can be used not only for domestic, but also for international shipments.

Precautionary parcel labels – types

Among the warning labels, the following are distinguished:

  • FRAGILE GLASS

for the transport of objects not only glass, but all fragile objects that can be damaged

  • STRIPS UP

mandatory for the transport of liquid substances

  • KEEP DRY

for the shipment of goods that can be affected by moisture

  • DANGEROUS PRODUCTS

informs about the type of danger of the transported products – for all types of transport (sea, air, rail and road)

  • DO NOT DRY

advises not to stack pallets on top of each other

  • TEXTURE INSIDE/DOCUMENTS ENCLOSED

indicates that documents have been attached to the consignment.

Warning packaging tape can also be used instead of warning stickers for parcels.

Tilt indicator

In addition to warning stickers for parcels, special Tiltwatch tilt indicators are also available from RAJA. These can be placed on the parcel and you can be sure that they will not come off, as they are attached with strong 3M adhesive tape – they stick perfectly to all cardboard boxes and wooden crates. By using such an indicator, the transport of products is safe. How does it work? Stick it on the consignment and check the result after receiving the goods. A red colouring of the shock sensor indicates that the load has tilted by 90 degrees during transport. In this case, a claim can be made on the delivery invoice.
