Before the era of globalisation, goods of all kinds were produced and disposed of locally. Products were not transported over long distances and buyers did not have to worry about protecting them during transport. Nowadays, however, there is a developed transport of goods, as locally produced articles reach very distant markets, often travelling many kilometres through various distribution channels, such as:
- Rail transport,
- Maritime transport
- Air transport,
- Road transport.
Each of the above-mentioned modes of transport requires the goods to be delivered to the carrier in suitable transport packaging, matching both the mode of transport and, of course, the type of goods.
The right goods transport – a guarantee of customer satisfaction
The transport of goods involves a number of steps that are necessary to ensure optimum transport quality. A very important element is the preparation of the pallets with the loads, on which the stability of the structure, and thus the safety of the transported goods, depends. To this end, it is sometimes necessary to use appropriately selected transport packaging. We all know that the proper securing of goods during transport is particularly important, among other things, due to the forwarder’s liability for any damage, which arises upon receipt of the goods from the sender and ceases upon handover to the recipient. This is why hauliers scrupulously check the compliance of goods to be transported with safety guidelines.
More often than not, it is the sender of the goods who provides the correct packaging for their consignment, chooses the type of wrapping, such as cartons, the type of pallets or crates, and checks their condition. It is important that the goods are stacked on the pallets in the right way, for example by distributing the weight evenly, to ensure safety throughout the transport. A pallet prepared for transport should be sufficiently secured, i.e., for example, wrapped in a special purpose film and with strong strapping.
Transport packaging
Shippers and haulage companies are constantly on the lookout for better and better packaging to protect products during transport. Any transport of goods should be adequately insured, and the selection of packaging for the type of goods helps to ensure proper protection. In domestic and international transport, it is common to use Europallets, which can easily be loaded into a sea container, onto a lorry trailer or onto a plane. The transport of goods on pallets will be easier with the use of transport packaging sized appropriately for pallets, such as, but not limited to:
- Pallet containers – damp-proof, can consist of separate modules such as a bottom or lid, which can be used together or separately depending on demand;
- Transport boxes – lightweight due to the use of wooden plywood, but very strong, easy to assemble, for which no screws or nails are needed;
- Pallet extensions – ideal for transporting machinery, engines; they are used to be placed on a Europallet for extra protection; importantly they are easy to store, robust and reusable;
- Box-pallets – great for transporting valuable and fragile goods, they guarantee optimal protection against mechanical damage.
Any of these packs will work well for shipping goods by sea, air or rail.
