Essential equipment for palletising

4min read 08/07/2019

Large warehouses with significant budgets and large areas palletise goods using a wrapping machine, but many others still choose manual palletisation. However, this is rarely light and pleasant for the workers. Often, it is downright strenuous, physically demanding work, no step of which should be missed.

The right equipment will help to increase the speed of manual palletising and make the work easier. With the right cartons and tools for strapping, wrapping and securing pallets, it is possible to carry out manual palletisation with minimal effort, while still achieving excellent results.

Ideal cartons for manual palletisation

To achieve a sturdy and stable pallet you need to use the right cardboard boxes. Choosepallet boxes, tailored to the size of the pallets. Take into account:

  • Themaximum weight that each box can hold, in order to select the right type of corrugated cardboard.
  • The final size of the pallet, in order to select the size of the individual cardboard boxes packed on the pallet and thus limit the voids present on the pallet.

For maximum stability we suggest choosing pallet container.

A cardboard box exactly the same size as the selected pallet makes it possible to comply with the maximum pallet size, while optimising the space taken up by the goods placed inside.

Pallet strapping tools

Once the logistics pallet has been prepared, preparations can be made to strap the pallet together to stabilise the individual loads that are stacked on it.

For this purpose, strapping should be used.

Depending on your budget and logistics needs, pallet strapping tools are also available, such as:

  • Manual tensionerThe pallet can be strapped down to prevent it from opening. We recommend its selection when there are only a small number of pallets to strap each day, as it requires some effort on the part of your staff.
  • Manual strapping tool is an interesting choice for warehouses with intensive manual palletisation that have a small budget. It allows operators to permanently join the two ends of the strap using strapping clips.
  • Theautomatic cordless tool makes work much easier due to its ‘Soft’ mode for PP strapping or wrapping delicate products, immediate stop for greater safety, automatic standby mode or convenient strap adjustment.

Pallet strapping tools

Once the pallet has been strapped down, any devices for securely wrapping the pallet with film will be useful. There is a huge choice of these, but there are two principles to keep in mind to ensure easy manual palletisation.

  • Stretch film suits most palletising applications. Because it is quiet, robust and transparent, it is suitable for pallets of all sizes.
  • Pre-stretched stretch filmis a good idea when preparing medium-weight pallets without sharp edges. Its biggest advantage? It is twice as thin and allows palletisation by hand without any effort.

To make life even easier for employees, the workstation can be equipped with a Stretch film dispenser. It allows the worker to wrap the pallets with film in a more comfortable position for a better end result.

The best solution when wrapping a large number of pallets in a short period of time is, on the other hand, shrink film together with a shrink gun. Once the film is positioned on the pallet, the employee safely activates the gun to secure the goods in the blink of an eye.

Theinterleavers , on the other hand, make it possible to increase the stability of the pallet or pallet carton. They are often used in distribution centres and industry.

We also encourage you to stock up on the materials you need to protect your logistics pallets from impacts and adverse weather conditions.

Tools for securing pallets

Two items are useful for this purpose:

  • Pallet coversThe pallet can be wrapped in plastic, which protects the top of the pallet from the weather and dust after wrapping.
  • Corners, which protects the corners of the pallet from impact and reduces damage due to penetration by the straps.

Uniform, stable and protected pallets prepared by hand are now ready for storage or dispatch.
