Envelope formats and their use

3min read 27/04/2018

The efficient mailing of letters and invoices is one of the key aspects of corporate accounting. The Inland Revenue enforces owners to meticulously collect documentation generated during business operations. How do you streamline the addressing and mailing of important bills and contracts?

C5, C4, B5 – the most popular envelope formats

Among the most popular packaging formats found in courier mailing, it is worth mentioning envelopes made of fashionable and durable brown kraft paper. They are equipped with self-adhesive strips that make it easy to seal tightly. As a result, there is no need to reach for the glue or apply additional adhesive tape, which does not look very aesthetically pleasing.

As far as their use is concerned, these envelopes can be used to transport important company documents (contracts, bills, invoices), but also other flat items. The most commonly used envelope formats are: C5, C4 and B5. They are made from recycled paper, so they are an environmentally friendly and safe solution. In addition, used envelopes can be easily recycled and reused.

The most popular envelope formats

Many contracts and invoices are still printedincompanies. Once in a while, it is necessary to send them to contractors. In order to pack thicker documents efficiently in an envelope, it is advisable to use an expandable version. Brown padded envelopes made from 120 g/m2 kraft paper (B4 envelope format) are much stronger than their white counterparts and do not tear as easily. Thanks to the expansion option, they can accommodate more documents at once – they expand up to 25 mm.

What are DL envelopes?

DL envelopes are 110x 220 mm in size. They are mainly used for sending business correspondence, contracts, invoices and similar documents. They are equipped with an adhesive strip, which makes sending even a large number of letters simple and time-saving.

Envelope formats – how do I choose them for their contents?

There are many types and sizes of envelopes on the packaging market. However, it’s not always clear what envelope format to use for. If you want to send a thicker document and are worried that it won’t fit into a standard envelope, you should use an expandable envelope, which folds out to a slightly larger size. This saves us money at the post office because we don’t have to send it as a parcel, but treat it as a letter, which is cheaper.

In addition, expanded envelopes, thanks to their appropriate weight and thickness, do not give away the contents of the package. When sending documents, we can be sure that the print inside the envelope is visible to a minimum degree. This type of envelope can be used for sending albums, books, catalogues and other types of documents. Brown envelopes are also a good choice because of the way they are packaged – they can be sealed with a self-sealing strip, without the need for additional tape, glue or staples.

For sending large print materials, which are much larger than standard envelopes, cardboard tubes with a stopper are definitely the best choice, as they protect the valuable contents from being crushed and damaged. This is a completely environmentally friendly solution.
