Eco palletisation – how to support environmental protection in the warehouse?

2min read 22/12/2020

Eco-palletising is the stacking of goods on pallets to improve shipping using eco-friendly packaging and accessories. Most companies use eco-friendly packaging for shipping and this also applies to shipping on pallets.

Since the majority of shipping packaging is ecological, why shouldn’t the same trend apply to sending goods on pallets? Eco palletisation is also possible.

Eco palletisation

The pallets themselves are ecological, as they are made of pressed wood. The material used to manufacture them is up to 80% recycled – they are wooden offcuts bound together with glue, which can be recycled after use. They are of good quality and significantly facilitate the transportation of goods. Plywood and cardboard pallets are also available. They are all lightweight, easy to manoeuvre and can be stacked. They can be protected with environmentally friendly stretch cast film, which is made of up to 80% recycled material.

Pressed wood pallets are twice as light as wooden pallets, so you can save on shipping costs. They are very strong, sturdy and stable – with a dynamic load of up to 900 kg. They are airtight – protecting goods from moisture and dirt, and safe – there are no nails, screws or sharp edges.

Mini versions of eco-pallets are also available – with a dynamic load of 500 or 250 kg. These are lighter, and therefore more economical and save storage space – they are suitable for stacking. Container pallets, on the other hand, are used for sea transport and allow optimised loading. They have 4 forklift entries and eliminate the need for additional securing of the shipment.

Accessories for eco palletisation

Since eco-friendly pallets are used for palletisation, it is also worth using eco-friendly accessories, such as:

  • cardboard angles and corners
  • cardboard dividers
  • honeycomb cardboard dividers
  • anti-slip paper dividers
  • cardboard safety cones
  • environmentally friendly 80% recycled cast stretch film.

Particularly useful during palletising are spacers. Those with a honeycomb structure facilitate the stable and equally stacking of heavy products in layers. The 3-layer ones are designed to separate lightweight items, and the 5-layer ones for heavy but fragile items. To properly protect the edges of the pallet, protective angles and corners should be used, as well as special cones.

The cast stretch film to wrap the pallet is made of 80% recycled polyethylene film. It has an adhesive side on the inside. It is flexible and tear-resistant – ensuring the stabilisation of the load during transport and storage. Its unwinding is quiet and fast. Available in 2 versions – transparent and opaque black.
