Paper is increasingly chosen as a filling material and protection, and there are several reasons for this. Paper as a filling material is a good environmental choice, it is versatile, easy to recycle and gives the packaging an ecological and sustainable appearance. In this post we look at the benefits paper as a filling material can bring to your business, and we show you examples of paper filling machines that make it quick and easy to fill your packages.

Uses for paper package filling

Kraft paper, corrugated board, tissue paper… Paper fillers come in a variety of different types and are usually used for two main purposes:

• Cushioning and fixing of products inside a spoon
• Absorption of dust, which is important when transporting shielded products

Advantages of paper as parcel filling

Paper is very well suited as parcel filling, and some of the reasons are:

• Paper as parcel filling is ecological, natural and safe. It is easy to recycle, and many of the products are also made of recycled material.

• Paper fill is antistatic, and it does not contain acid or chlorine. This makes paper fill well suited for protecting printed documents or photographs.

• Furthermore, paper fill is not exposed to corrosion, which is useful if you need to wrap metal parts.

• Because of its versatility, paper fill adapts to your products, whether they are small or large.

• Paper is easy to handle, and it is safe, since it can cover even the sharpest objects. This is a significant advantage, especially for the carrier handling the package and the customer unpacking it.

Advantages of paper filling machines

► Save time: with a paper filling machine, you can make your own parcel filling exactly when you need it, without having to order and wait for a delivery. If you need large quantities, this is not a problem: a paper filling machine produces up to 84 metres of filling paper per minute. This is ideal for increasing productivity.

► Save space: a package of paper for a paper filling machine is very compact. A package of filling paper can fill up to 30 tubs of finished package filling! This frees up a lot of space in your warehouse.

► Save money: A packing machine can give you a significant saving compared to using standard filling material, such as packing chips. The saving will be greatest if you have a certain number of packs per day

Which paper filling machine is best for your business?

RAJA recommends the packaging machines PadPak and FillPak.

We have a wide range of PadPak machines to cover most needs. More advanced models come with features such as remote control, foot pedals and the ability to program paper lengths.

More affordable models, such as the Fillpak M, are suitable for smaller pack volumes. It feeds the paper through a tray, and because it is manual, you have full control over how much protective paper you store. For more moderate pack volumes, machines like the Padpak Junior are a good choice. It fits well into packing processes where at least 30 packs are packed per day.

The FillPak TT is a good alternative if you need more packing material than the previous two machines can handle, as it produces as much as 1.4 metres of packing material per second. Another good choice is the FillPak TT Cutter, which has an automatic cutter so that the paper is fed directly into the tray, making the packing process more efficient. The cutter can also be set so that a new paper belt is produced and cut as soon as the previous one has been torn off. You can also set different paper lengths to produce packing material that suits your shipments perfectly. It also has a foot pedal so that you have both hands free for packing

Both the Fillpak TT and Fillpak TT Cutter use 1-ply paper available in 3 qualities. One pallet of paper provides up to 72 m³ of packing fill and can easily replace air trays, foam trays and interleaving paper

Fully automatic paper filling machines for large volumes such as PadPak Senior are ideal for more advanced packing processes because they can provide a continuous flow of paper. The paper length can be programmed in advance so you are always sure to get the right amount of packing fill.

Other variants of paper filling machines

HSM Paper Filler – turns your used cardboard boxes into filling material! This is an environmentally friendly and efficient paper filling machine that turns your used boxes into protective filling material. The machine thus helps to ensure that you get the most out of the used packaging and thus also does the maximum to protect the environment. The machine is very robust and tape and pins that may be on the cardboard do not hinder the shredding process. The paper filler is available in two models; a table model that can easily be placed on a packing table, and a larger model with wheels that can be moved around
