What is environmentally friendly packaging?

There is no simple, short answer to what is environmentally friendly packaging. In this article we share RAJA’s view on how packaging can be made as environmentally friendly as possible

Optimisation

To be as environmentally friendly as possible, it is important to think packaging optimization. What does your company pack and ship, and what needs do you have to protect your products on the way to the customer?

All packaging has an environmental impact, but at RAJA we care about keeping it as low as possible. That’s why most of our packaging (86%) is produced in Europe, and we are continuously working to increase the proportion of our products that are made from recycled and recyclable paper, cardboard and plastic.

RAJA’s 5 packaging principles

RAJA has developed 5 packaging principles for environmentally friendly packaging: reduce, reuse, replace, renew and recycle.

1. Reduce

Reduce the weight and volume of packaging to the minimum necessary to protect well without over-packing.

Choose packaging that is adapted to your products so that the empty area around the product is reduced. You will then need less packing material and there will be less unnecessary weight, which means that your transport costs will be lower.

2. Gjenbruk.

Use up the packaging as soon as possible. RAJA offers various alternative products that you and your customers can use several times without it deteriorating. Check out our selection of returnable packaging and other products for the web shop!

3. Replace.

Replace packaging with high environmental impact or non-recyclable with environmentally friendly alternatives.

RAJA works to offer you packaging with reduced environmental impact, and will always launch new and more environmentally friendly products.

RAJA Group has set 3 environmental targets to be achieved by 2025:

• 100% of our packaging must be recycled and/or recyclable
• 80% of our sales must be paper and cardboard packaging
• Launch of new, reusable packaging

4. Renew.

Innovate by using bio-based packaging.

Choose from one of our products made from renewable materials. The pulp used as a component in the production of our paper and board packaging consists of 70% wood from thinner cuttings, which is needed for the maintenance of the forest, while 30% wood waste and chips are extracted from forestry.

5. Recycles

Recycles packaging to contribute to a circular economy that minimizes waste. RAJA can offer a wide range of recyclable packaging and encourages everyone to sort their waste thoroughly to achieve the most efficient recycling.
