Recycling is a simple and rewarding activity in everyday life, and is a matter of course for anyone who cares about the environment. Recycling is also important for the circular economy and is necessary for the transition to a low-emission society. However, the Norwegians are at the top of Europe when it comes to waste from packaging, producing 178 kg of waste per year, compared with an EU average of 175 kg. Higher requirements for recycling are therefore important if Norway is to approach its climate targets.
What is a recycled material?
Recycling is the process by which used or discarded waste is converted into raw materials for the manufacture of new products. To do this, materials such as cardboard, glass or plastic undergo various stages of treatment in order to be utilised for new applications. The recycled material is the result of this transformation and consists of secondary raw materials from recycling.
Benefits of recycling
Investing in the use of recycled materials has a number of benefits:
- Reduced pollution. By producing new goods from waste, the impact of the production chain on the environment is limited and energy savings are possible.
- Conservation of natural resources. The continuous production cycle means that recycled products minimise the use of natural resources.
- Added value compared to competitors. Consumer preference for recycled products is growing, so environmentally responsible behaviour strengthens the brand for companies that make good environmental choices.
What is recycled packaging?
Recycled packaging is an ideal example of the circular economy, as the packaging comes from a previous object that is transformed after use, and then used again . If only mono-materials are used in this type of packaging, the environmental benefit is even greater.
RAJA can offer a range of recycled packaging products, for example:

Ecodesign in packaging
Ecodesign is when the process of designing, developing and using packaging products takes the environment into account from the very beginning. The EU Ecodesign Directive aims to ensure that products placed on the European market are designed for a circular economy, and there will be more specific requirements for ecodesign in the future. Being an early adopter of ecodesign will have a positive impact on the brand and the company’s performance.
RAJA’s 5 packaging principles
The RAJA Group aims to promote good and sustainable packaging use, and has developed 5 packaging principles that we want to follow: Reduce, Reuse, Replace, Renew and Recycle.

We are also committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and we take the use of recycled materials and recyclable products seriously. We encourage everyone to do their part to take care of the environment, and one step in the right direction is to adopt eco-friendly packaging.
