Mina is a versatile and active lady who appreciates family boating holidays. She sums up her hobbies as; Summer, sun and sea.

We at RAJA would like to let you get to know some of our employees a little better. That’s why we’re producing a series of articles introducing some of the people you’ll meet when you contact us. In addition to telling you a little about themselves, they share some good advice in an area of packaging that they’re particularly interested in.

Today: Mina Falao-Minster

Mina has a lot of experience in the packaging industry and is one of our leading product experts. She has worked at RAJA since 2014, and out of all of us on the RAJA team, Mina probably has the most expertise about our product range. She especially knows a lot about eskers, our core product, and she is happy to offer some good advice. First and foremost, Mina is concerned that customers choose the right esker based on their needs. It’s not necessary to buy more esker types than you need, but it often pays to choose 3-4 esker types instead of just 1 or 2. Then it will be easier to find the right esker for each product, and you will reduce the need for fillers

Good packaging advice from Mina

Mina would like to share some good advice on choosing ashtrays

  • Stock a variety of sizes! Some customers don’t want to stock a variety of boxes and therefore only buy 1-2 box types. They may choose larger boxes to ensure they are large enough, but they could do with smaller boxes on many of their products. Mina reminds you that you should use the size of the box to minimise the need for packing fill.
  • Choose a strong enough ashtray. There is a big difference between single and double corrugated cardboard. What you need depends on the weight of your goods and how light they are. The lighter the goods you are sending, the thinner the ashtray you usually need. If you have large and heavy goods, large ashtrays of double corrugated cardboard are suitable
  • Also consider the quality of the ash. One ash may look the same as another, but it is not necessarily of the same quality. You won’t notice this until you start using the ash. RAJA’s ash is carefully selected to be as resistant as possible to pressure, impact and weight. The ash can withstand more and can be used several times.
  • It pays to agree on the minimum dimensions in the freight contract with the carrier. Here you can save a lot! And sleeves or other packaging that require manual handling also incur a fee.
  • Choose smart boxes! There are many boxes with different solutions that save time. Examples are boxes with a double glue strip, which provides easy return for the recipient. Boxes with an automatic base are another example. Small and medium-sized businesses can benefit a lot from choosing post boxes with a variable height and automatic base. These are much quicker to pack, and the boxes are adapted to mailboxes so that in many cases your customers receive the package at the post office instead of having to pick it up at a delivery point.
  • Keep the environment in mind when choosing ashes. It is good for the environment to choose recycled ashes, but it does not always pay to choose ashes made of 100% recycled material. This can make the fibres too short and it can be difficult to get the packing tape to stick. Furthermore, Mina reminds you that an important part of taking the environment into account is how you handle used ashes.

Short-haul packaging reduces environmental impact

The origin of ash is also important, as transport is a major source of emissions and energy consumption. Transport accounts for a quarter of Europe’s total CO2 emissions, and must be reduced by at least 60% by mid-century to meet EU climate targets. Short-haul packaging can save the environment from greenhouse gas emissions.

Choosing a European supplier of packaging and labels reduces CO2 emissions from transport and helps to maintain European jobs. 86% of RAJA’s products are produced in Europe, and our teams carefully hand-pick good quality products to ensure the best for customers. RAJA boasts the industry’s widest range of eskers, and we have a special focus on eskers that are adapted to online retail.
