We at RAJA would like to let you get to know some of our employees a little better. That’s why we’re producing a series of articles introducing some of the people you’ll meet when you contact us. In addition to telling you a little about themselves, they share some good advice in an area of packaging that they’re particularly interested in.
Cecilie Buck Rustad
Cecilie is a social and energetic lady who works as a sales and customer advisor at RAJA. She has travelled a lot and had a varied career in both travel and IT before joining RAJA. Cecilie enjoys meeting people and finding out what is important to those around her, and she likes working with products that solve customers’ challenges. She herself says that she is interested in efficiency and how to work smarter and more sustainably.
Plastic is an area Cecilie is particularly passionate about. She doesn’t think everyone should necessarily cut out plastic, but look at ways to reduce consumption. There are several reasons to continue using plastic packaging, and one of them is safe storage. Plastic is water and wind repellent, and it weighs less than paper, so it costs less to transport than paper. It’s also worth noting that there’s a huge product development going on in plastic packaging. Today’s technology makes it possible to use several times less plastic than was possible just 1-2 years ago. This is especially true for stretch films, tapes and fillers.
Some recommendations from Cecilie
- You can save both money and the environment by using thinner stretch film than before. The standard thickness of stretch film used to be 23 my, but now many can go as low as 5 my. Especially in 2021 when the raw material price of plastic is particularly high, there can be a lot to be gained from going down in thickness. Read about RAJA’s stretch film types here.
- Many can also go down in thickness of tape, so that you get fewer roll changes on the dispenser. This makes the farm both saves time and is more environmentally friendly, as you use fewer rolls of tape.
Did you know that there is also recycled stretch film? RAJA is the only company to offer this on the Norwegian market. This stretch film is produced in France from 80% recycled material, and is as durable as regular stretch film.
Plastic as protection and package filler
Many farms use bubble wrap as protection and packing material, also called bubble wrap. For farms that have a larger consumption of bubble wrap it can be advantageous to evaluate inflatable air bags. These also come in recycled plastic. RAJA is working throughout Europe on several innovation projects to be able to offer more and more environmentally friendly solutions on the market. For example, RAJA will soon launch air bags with zero discharge
