Earth Hour from 2007 to today
Earth Hour is the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment, aiming to engage individuals, businesses and governments around the world. Earth Hour has grown from a single marking in Sydney in 2007 to a global movement for nature and the environment, and has been held in Norway every year since 2009. This celebration is a symbolic act to mark the world standing together against climate change
In 190 countries around the world, Earth Hour 2020 was marked, as a symbol of how we stand together to preserve this one home we all share – our Earth. Join us this year, and we can make Earth Hour 2021 the biggest celebration yet!
All you need to participate is access to the light switches at home. Between 8:30pm and 9:30pm, we’ll turn off the lights in millions of homes, buildings and landmarks around the world.
Earth Hour is not a power-saving campaign, but a symbolic marking. The lights are turned off to send a message to world leaders: we must solve the climate and nature crisis, and we must do it now!
So you don’t have to turn off your TV or PC. But how about lighting candles and making it an atmospheric moment for yourself, or with others – maybe on video chat?
Join the march and use the candlestick as your voice to say that we must slow down climate change and punish the tapestry of nature – now!
