Have you ever heard of the ‘two bucket method’? It is the perfect way to get the floors in your business, shop or office spotlessly clean. So what exactly does this technique entail? And why is it just as effective? In this article, we share all our tips and advice.
1. Cleaning floors with the two bucket method: what is it?
Cleaning your floors is not just for the sake of looks and ‘aesthetics’ – it also has a hygienic purpose. A very dirty floor can eventually become a breeding ground for bacteria and mould. When you clean with one bucket, you always rinse your mop or broom in the same water. This method is only partially effective, as the germs picked up are mixed with the rinse water. This risks leaving germs on another part of your floor again. That’s a bit of mopping with the tap open – isn’t it?
With the two bucket method, you avoid this problem. The principle is very simple: you use one bucket of clean water and a second bucket in which you rinse out your mop. That second bucket then always contains the dirty water. This keeps the clean water and dirty water neatly separated. Result: a perfectly clean floor!
2. The two bucket method step by step
To clean your floor using the two bucket method, simply follow the steps below:
- Dip your mop in a bucket of clean water (possibly with floor cleaning soap) and wring it out.
- Use this mop to then clean your floor.
- Now dip your dirty mop into the second bucket and wring it out again. If the water in your second bucket has become too dirty, replace the water in time.
3. What do you need for the two bucket method?
To efficiently clean your floors with the two bucket method, you will obviously also need the right equipment. Think mops, buckets, cleaning trolleys, etc. Here are some tips that will help you choose the appropriate material.
3.1 Mopping and mopping
To clean your floors, you can use different types of mops or mops. A mop is extremely versatile and can be easily wrapped around a broom, floor puller or mop. It is often made of microfibre or cotton and absorbs dirt very well. It is also easy to clean and reuse.
A second option is the ‘flat mop‘. This type of mop has a rectangular flat shape and is attached to a telescopic handle. Flat mops are very manoeuvrable and come in different sizes, depending on the surface you need to clean. Thirdly, you can opt for the ‘fringe mop‘. These fringes allow you to smoothly reach hard-to-reach places in corners.
3.2 Buckets
The two bucket method wouldn’t really be a sight without a bucket, of course. You can choose a classic round household bucket for this, for example. This is the simplest solution with no bells and whistles and answers the task perfectly. Secondly, you can opt for a bucket with a press. You can slide your mop into the press. When you apply slight pressure after this, your mop will automatically be wrung out in the press. As a result, you no longer have to bend down and put less effort into cleaning. Practical and ergonomic.
3.3 Cleaning trolleys
Cleaning trolleys are the most complete solution for those who want to use the two bucket method. The buckets in such a set often each have a different colour so that you can easily distinguish the clean and dirty water. The two buckets are placed on a chassis with wheels, allowing you to smoothly roll the trolley anywhere. The buckets are also usually equipped with a mop press so you can work effortlessly. There are even variants equipped with an integrated rubbish bag holder to quickly dispose of the waste you come across while cleaning.
