Safety and care in packaging: everything you need to know

In this article we will discuss how to pack and ship the sweets that symbolise Easter: chocolate eggs and doves.

These are delicate food products and getting them intact to their destination is not easy. In addition to safety, it is very important to carefully design the packaging, especially if the final recipient is the consumer. This is where RAJA comes in: don’t let your customers down, choose the ideal packaging for your Easter sweets and follow our advice for sending eggs and doves, in Italy and abroad, without nasty surprises.

In fact, to ensure that they reach the customer in perfect condition, whether a private individual or a retailer, it is necessary to package them by following a few but important indications that you will find in this article.

If you are not a manufacturer, it may happen that the dove you have to ship is already inside a package. Remember that when you have to ship it. the packaging must be protected and safeguarded as much as the dove itself because it is part of the experience you will be offering the end consumer. The same precautions should also be taken for the material with which the Easter egg is wrapped.

Now that we have made all the relevant assumptions, let’s get to the heart of the choice of packaging.

The first thing you need to take into consideration are the measurements of the product you have to send so that you can identify the most suitable box accordingly. Simply use the Find your box tool and enter the measurements in cm to find the most suitable format for you.

Once you have chosen your shipping box, we recommend you put some protective material inside it. If you are sending doves, we recommend wrapping paper because it is soft and adapts perfectly to the shape of the material to be protected.

To produce the crumpled paper that you will need, both for filling the box and for blocking the transported product, you can use the FillPak TT Cutter Paper Filling System or buy paperdirectly in sheets or rolls.

For Easter Eggs, on the other hand, the ideal is the use of pads, soft paper cushions that provide protection and at the same time filling by light cushioning.

The machines that produce the pads are for example Wrappak Protector, PadPak LC and Guardian.

We recommend you put a pad at the base and sides of the box, place the Easter egg inside and wrap it carefully.

The Wrappak Protector pads, combined with the cold accumulators in a kraft bag, are perfect for maintaining the temperature during transport. This is something not to be overlooked, especially in April when temperatures start to rise and it would be a shame if they arrived melted at their destination. The ideal temperature for chocolate is between 13 and 20 °C, exceeding this range would jeopardise the success of the shipment.

How to send Easter eggs abroad

As mentioned above, great care must be taken when choosing packaging for shipping Easter eggs and doves.

However, if the shipment is destined for a foreign country, there are extra considerations to be made. For some products, it is necessary to use suitably equipped means of transport that can guarantee the food the optimal storage temperature.

Since Easter eggs are considered a ‘non-perishable’ food, there are no special restrictions and standard shipping can be used (if we are moving within the EU). The rules change if the shipment is destined for a non-EU country. In the first case, it is sufficient to enter the necessary data on the site and print out the waybill, whereas in the second case, it is necessary to fill in a series of documents and be familiar with customs regulations. It will therefore be necessary to do some research beforehand, find out the rules of the country to which you are going to ship and then select the most suitable courier.

Our tips for the perfect gift box

The Easter egg or dove often represents a gift: many bakeries take care of sending these delicacies to their customers or, on their behalf, to friends and relatives. Therefore, in addition to safety and care in packaging, attention is also required. Within the classic shipping box, one can therefore choose the best way to present the product to the customer when opening it: whether it is a basket with straw paper, transparent paper or a wrapping with tissue paper, it is important that every detail is taken care of.

To make your mailing even more special, you can place a card with a personalised message inside your parcel!

And don’t forget the possibility of customising your packaging to make your brand recognisable. Adhesive tape, box, tissue, you decide what to customise and how to best enhance your brand.

Remember: Easter eggs, as well as doves, are objects that are as good as they are fragile: in order to send them in the right way, you must therefore pay attention to the packaging but also to the care of the packing. Contact us now for advice!
