How to pack and ship a guitar

1min read 08/06/2018

Do you have to ship a guitar and don’t know how to do it?
Here are some practical tips to do it safely.

Remember that the guitar is a very delicate instrument, so you should pay close attention to the packaging in which you ship it.

To do this, just follow 4 simple steps involving these 4 packages:

1. Bubble film
Wrap the entire guitar with bubble wrap, especially the most delicate parts such as the neck and headstock.

2. Adhesive tape
to make sure that the bubble film protection is well fixed, apply tape

3. Two-wave cardboard box
Use a box suitable for the size of the guitar and leave space for filling.
The most suitable box is one specifically for flat and tall products.

4. Filling
Fill the gaps inside the box using filler to prevent the guitar from shifting during transport. We recommend the use of air cushions or kraft paper.

These tips can be useful for all musical instruments, but be careful, each type needs a little extra care.

First of all, regardless of the instrument you have to ship, disassemble the moving parts if possible and pack them individually .

Are you shipping a string instrument? Remember to loosen the strings to reduce pressure and reduce risks!

For percussion instruments, you can use this trick: fit smaller instruments inside larger ones, just like Chinese boxes. This way you optimise space and avoid bulky and therefore more expensive packages.

Thelast tip concerns the keys, it is very important to protect them with profiles or foam sheets.
