Alessandro Gandini has been working for Rajapack for almost five years and has decades of experience in sales and customer relations. Outside work Alessandro loves to travel, sometimes following his favourite football teams on international trips when he is not wearing cleats.
Here is how Alessandro describes a typical day for him as a Rajapack field salesman.
My first visit today is to one of our long-standing customers. He needs to find a solution to close the American triple wave boxes in which he places his silent pumps, before exporting them worldwide. So far, he has been using PVC tape, making three turns for each box. He would like a safer solution, one that allows him not to waste material, while conveying a good image of the company. I let him test an electronic humidifier for a fortnight to be used in conjunction with the gummed paper tape. The tests went well. The customer is satisfied that he no longer has to make two unnecessary passes of the tape. Now only one turn of the box is needed: thanks to the humectant, the glue penetrates deep into the fibres of the cardboard, the closure is immediate and definitive. The gummed paper is perfect for its export because it holds heavy loads and withstands extreme weather variations. In addition, they were able to immediately detect an attempted theft, the gummed paper removed tore the carton, allowing their recipient to sign the courier’s transport document with a specific reservation. I conclude the sale of two electronic humidifiers and one semi-automatic. We also decided to customise the gummed tape with the company’s logo.
The second visit is from a recent customer. This is the second time we have met. He had asked me to find a protective solution for shipments of children’s toys. Up to now, my interlocutor has been using flo-paks, but he has difficulties because they take up too much space in the warehouse and are not liked by the end customers: they scatter everywhere.
I have brought along a Compact Ranpak® paper filling machine. I carry out a demonstration. The customer is enthusiastic. This solution will make it possible to have no storage space. The filling will only be produced when needed. The company’s image will also improve. The packaging, their first contact with the end customer, will be clean, no chips scattered on the floor by children, and environmentally friendly, consisting only of recyclable paper.
The customer signs the contract for the rental of the machine and also asks me for a quote for the continuous use of cardboard boxes, customised adhesive tape and stretch film to secure the pallets.
I note down his annual consumption, and later this afternoon I will draw up an offer, which I will send out immediately tomorrow. It is important for me to get everyone a prompt reply.
I treat myself to a quick meal at the ‘meat shop’ of one of my favourite and tastiest customers, then I get back in the car.
The third visit is to a potential new customer who exports electronic devices to tropical climates.
He has to protect them from humidity and static electricity. Luckily, at Rajapack we have Shielding antistatic, heat-sealable or zip-lock bags, and dehydrating bags that absorb moisture. Let’s review the various opportunities together, choosing two solutions, which are also compatible with American size boxes. I will formulate a precise offer later this afternoon.
The fourth and final visit is from a customer who has been buying cardboard boxes from us since 2013. His packaging systems are 10 years old and no longer perform as well as they should. I have already been to see him to analyse the costs and find a cheaper solution. Today I give him a PadPak Senior® paper machine. I install the machine and explain how it works. The customer will keep it for a trial period and then decide whether or not to finalise the rental.
It was a productive day. There were orders, solutions found, opportunities to be developed, but above all new confrontations with people and working worlds, each one interesting for its specificity.
Now a coffee and it’s back to the office, at the computer, with reports and quotes to be drawn up!
p.s. if you would like specific advice. We can make an appointment agandini@rajapack.it
