Packing material is a “jumping-off point” for handicrafts. Everyone knows the plane, the car or the playhouse made of cardboard. Corrugated cardboard, polystyrene, bubble wrap, different coloured adhesive tapes, foils and tissue paper, various materials such as paper, cardboard, wood, foam padding – our product index really does read like the inventory list of the handicraft supplies shop when viewed through “creative glasses”. No wonder that even we, who deal with these materials every day, keep coming up with new ideas.
Some ideas are less new, but real classics. The tissue paper ghost, for example. On the occasion of the Halloween custom of getting spooked for the evening of 31 October into the morning of 1 November, we’ve put together some really simple ideas for Halloween decorations in the office.
The 30-second ghost
It really doesn’t take any longer (okay, with the first ghost maybe, but from number 2 onwards the production runs like magic…!) to make a small ghost for home use. All you need for this is
- a spherical object, in our example an apple (an orange or a ball of crumpled up newspaper will also work…)
- a few sheets of white tissue paper (use at least two)
- a bit of string or ribbon and a black felt-tip pen.
Simply place the tissue paper over the apple and wrap and tie the ribbon underneath. Draw on the face with the felt pen and the little ghost is ready!
The bin liner spider web
With a few cuts, you can make an impressive spider web as a Halloween decoration using a standard household black, grey or even white bin liner. To do this, cut the bin liner into a square and fold it into a triangle. Place the corners that are further apart on top of each other – and on top of each other again. It’s best to tape the open side together with a little tape, this will hold the layers of foil together while you cut. Now mark out the cut edges as shown in the picture. Cut out, remove the tape and unfold: Done!
A little tip: You can simply “warm up” this technique again in a few weeks… You can also make a first-class snow crystal with white or silver-grey paper or tissue paper!

.Trick or treat
If you’re on your way through the neighbourhood on Halloween evening, or if you already want to try your luck in the office with your colleagues to collect sweets (in the best case), we have another idea how you can carry your “booty” home in style. In the video, we show two very simple variants of how you can make a matching carrier bag in no time at all from a lacquer paper carrier bag (orange) and a bag box .
