Gift Wrap

9min read 04/12/2024
Why wrap presents at all? Protection plays a role. But the actual tasks of gift wra pping are different: To cover and yet tease!
To entice and yet hide, to enhance and increase anticipation, to protect from prying eyes and to arouse curiosity. And this has been the case since the beginning of the 2nd century, when gifts were wrapped in paper in China – a very precious product at the time. More on the history and significance of gift wrapping. Some might call it superficial, but: This article is purely about the look. What are the possibilities to wrap a gift attractively, originally, quickly, cheaply, creatively…? creative?

What type of gift wrapper are you?

Before we give any tips, let’s start with the basics. Because to become a gift wrapping hero, you should first take an honest self-assessment. Which gift wrapping type are you? Hectic wrapper or planful folder? Glossy paper with ribbon, chic black cardboard with satin bow or a means to an end?

One finds that even old newspapers make a top wrapper (and incidentally, so do black fingers when gift wrapping – but that’s another story!). The other is only satisfied when the bow is at the right angle on the precisely folded glossy paper. In the following, we provide tips for all types. Creative gift wrapping for everyone: The video gives step-by-step instructions for different occasions (Christmas, birthday, simple) and different shapes (round gifts, large gifts, rectangular gifts, bulky gifts…).

Packing with gift bag

Skill level 1, quick and independent of shape: Gift wrapping in paper carrier bags is really easy and requires no special dexterity. No handicrafts necessary and still a real eye-catcher!

Perfume, body lotion, clothes, books and even wine: just put them in the bag and you’re done! Gift bags are available in different sizes and colours, made of satin, lacquer paper with and without patterns or in the form of decorative organza bags. Tip – and a real game changer, especially in the run-up to Christmas: anyone who has ever made a DIY Advent calendar and given it as a gift knows that you need enough wrapping paper to wrap 24 presents – and plenty of patience! With bags and pouches on the other hand, you can save on both 😉

If you want to hide the fact that you used a “cheap trick” when wrapping presents, you can decorate the packaging with ribbons. It is a good idea to attach the decoration with a printed company sticker for a personal touch instead of using conventional adhesive tape. This keeps the joy of the gift with the promotional reminder as a positive feeling in the memory. Gift wrapping can be so quick 🙂 The most beautiful ideas are often the simple ones!

The age-old game of wrapping and unwrapping:

Showing a little can be very charming… Works great with decorative bags, for example the kraft paper bag with a window. Wrapping is just as easy here: bag and seal with self-adhesive strips or, in the case of the organza bags, with the cord.

The noble gift box

Skill level 1: Old box, my ass! Cosmetics, lingerie, perfumes – high-quality products are attractively presented in the elegant gift boxes. This is another great idea: the step-by-step explanation is rather brief: Unfold the box, put the gift in, add a little accessory such as tissue paper, paper wool or excelsior and be proud.

The folding box with magnetic closure is one of the classics in the range of the packaging mail order company RAJA . The clou of the closure is hidden: Invisibly integrated magnets allow the gift box to be closed and opened – over and over again! Apart from the magnets, nothing really needs to be hidden in the gift box: Available in three colours and three sizes each, the packaging is already the gift, the contents almost become a secondary matter! Since the folding box is extremely sturdy and of high quality, it leaves the recipient with an immediate impression of “something special” and is sure to be used again after opening. Here: The Video gift box view.

We also like the gift box because it is particularly sustainable:

Self-assembling boxes, with magnetic closure, with bow, made of natural products with padding for fragile materials – gift boxes are suitable for many uses and are a gift in themselves. The recipient can reuse the box for storage or packaging. Especially with our folding box with magnetic closure we often get the feedback that it may “live on” in the household for a long time…

How to wrap with wrapping paper

Skill level 2: Wrapping with wrapping paper. In contrast to wrapping in gift bags or gift boxes, the finished gift allows you to draw conclusions about the size, texture and characteristics of the present. Is it soft? Does it rattle? Can outlines be felt? Guessing about presents is an essential part of the charm of receiving presents, not only at Christmas – and is only possible in this form when wrapping with gift wrap.

There are countless instructions and creative ideas for wrapping with wrapping paper on the web. We will concentrate on the basics here: For example, we will show you how to wrap a gift in just 30 seconds and still give it that certain “something” in our video instructions:

Wrapping rounds and ovals with wrapping paper

Rectangular objects are fairly easy to wrap. Wrapping a book, DVD or game in paper requires no special instructions. Wrapping round or oval gifts: a very special challenge. A popular way is to stick to the motto “packaging follows form”: Oval items are often reminiscent of a large sweet thanks to their shape alone. And this is how you can implement this packaging idea: For example, wrap your gift tightly in Packing silk, transparent film , or – more sustainable: in newspaper or fabric – . Then simply twist the ends together or close and decorate first one end and then the other with a pretty bow – that’s it.

How to wrap bulky or large items

Do you want to pack a bulky object? Maybe something triangular or an object without any corners or edges? We show you how you can easily make your own gift bag out of wrapping paper and thus solve the “problem” easily and elegantly.

Or go the easy way and pack “the round in the square”: Choose a decorative gift box in which the oval gift fits. For example, you can also use our Gift boxes with magnetic closure gift boxes. The fact that the colours of the inside and outside cover are the same underlines the particularly high-quality impression. If necessary, pad the box or carton for extra product protection with appropriate filling material such as Wood wool or Paper wool. As the name suggests, paper wool is made of 80 percent recycled paper. The accordion-folded strips of paper interlock reliably when padded and are available in many attractive colours. You send your box as usual in the appropriate outer packaging.

Original and pretty packaging with wrapping paper

Wrapping paper is boring? Not at all! The material is trendy and has long since found its way into the world of gifts.

To achieve the desired effect with wrapping paper, it is important to focus on accents, for example with special colours, noble gift ribbons and Christmas accessories. Tip: If desired, the wrapping paper can also be painted or printed, or the shop can add its own individual design.

The wrapping paper on a roll can be cut to size like wrapping paper. It offers the perfect canvas for original ideas: The customer can still edit, paint and stick on the packaging.

With splashes of colour, photos, newsprint, a small piece of wrapping paper and much more, the gift becomes a personal message.

Bow and ribbon

For that special touch when wrapping a gift, use a gift bow, gift ribbon or gift tag. They give the gift a very personal touch, regardless of whether you have opted for “ready-made” gift wrapping with a gift bag or gift box or for wrapping the gift with wrapping paper.

Last but not least, how can you add a special touch to the gift? In addition to gift stars, stick-on bows or tied ribbon bows, you can let your creativity run free and incorporate other materials:
A promotional reminder, a small fir branch, poinsettias, or gift tags make the gift something very special. The packaging makes the gift a real Christmas present and shows the recipient the appreciation.

Did you know?

Cash and valuables should only travel with secure shipping and tracking.

It is also important that the item being shipped does not pose a danger to people or the environment. This is referred to as dangerous goods, which also includes perfume and batteries. In national shipping, limited quantities may be sent depending on the transport company, but they must be labelled: Handle with care!

Proper packaging plays a particularly important role here, because the sender bears the risk. If, for example, a perfume is sent that breaks and causes a fire, the sender is liable for the entire cost of the damage.
