According to the statistics portal statista.de, women spend around 28.1 minutes and men 24.6 minutes per day in the bathroom. Extrapolated to 1 year, Germans spend about 1 week in the bathroom. Time that could also be spent, for example, on having a nice holiday. Perhaps this is the reason why there is always talk of the bathroom as a temple of wellness or a place to relax at home.
Bathroom from Retrobad as an oasis of well-being
This is undoubtedly true for a bathroom from our customer Retrobad. Retrobad has now been a specialist in furnishing high-quality bathrooms for over 10 years. From washbasins, fittings, toilets, bathtubs and shower trays to matching accessories, the company offers everything for the beautiful bathroom. As the name suggests, Retrobad specialises in bathrooms with the latest technology in traditional and classic styles. The customers have correspondingly special requirements and are, for example, owners of unusual buildings. In addition to many hotels and old buildings, castles are also equipped with Retrobad bathrooms. Retrobad sells its products primarily through its own online shop. In its own showroom, however, various taps, bathtubs and basins can also be “touched”.
Safe transport throughout Europe
Customers from all over Europe are supplied. 50% of the orders come from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, but Retrobad also delivers to Denmark, France and Spain – and has even shipped to Australia. About 1000 deliveries are sent per month, and these are not so much small packages, but often complete bathrooms, from ceramics to accessories such as lamps, mirrors and toothbrush mugs. All the more important, therefore, is a good shipping process.
Bathroom packaging – a challenge
Retrobad has been working with RAJA from the very beginning. Initially, shipping materials were ordered in small quantities, for example pallets, cartons and filling and padding material. As the company grew, shipping and logistics were outsourced to a forwarding company. At the beginning of this year, however, Retrobad brought back the logistics and, with RAJA’s support, is now packing and shipping itself again. In cooperation with RAJA, the warehouse was set up for this purpose and equipped with wide-span shelving. Transport equipment such as pallet trucks and roller containers facilitate the handling of goods within the warehouse.
Elaborate packaging for sensitive products
At Retrobad, the individual components are assembled according to the orders and then shipped complete. Since very sensitive products are involved, such as ceramic bathtubs or washbasins or fittings with delicate surfaces, the preparation for shipment is of crucial importance. “We pack very elaborately, because we send very high-quality and therefore correspondingly expensive things. And if the customer then receives inadequate packaging and broken goods, then in the worst case he will withdraw from the purchase,” Alexandra Schumann, Managing Director of Retrobad, explains the importance of packaging.
Paper cushioning has proved its worth
Water taps, shower heads and other small parts, which are often already packed by the manufacturer, have to be packed again in larger boxes and protected with paper padding. The cushioning with paper padding, has paid off especially with heavy products such as washbasins. Bubble wrap, for example, gives way much more when it weighs a lot and thus does not achieve the desired cushioning effect. The paper cushions are produced on site with a paper cushioning machine as required. This saves valuable storage space. The boxes are sealed with personalised adhesive tape, in this way the sender is immediately recognisable for the recipient.
Focus on advice
Retrobad particularly appreciates the personal advice provided by RAJA.
Pallet loads for larger deliveries
Retrobad relies on pallets for the shipment of several washbasins or shower trays. The company uses both Inka pallets and lightweight wooden pallets for this purpose. Wooden pallets are particularly suitable for larger deliveries with several washbasins, as several basins can be stacked here. To ensure that the pallets can be packed safely, the new warehouse also has a semi-automatic pallet wrapper with a turntable. It enables the efficient and safe wrapping of the pallets with stretch film at the push of a button.
To prevent breakage of the high-quality bathroom fittings during transport, the deliveries are provided with appropriate warning tapes: the notices “Caution glass”, “Risk of breakage” serve as an indication for the shipping service providers or forwarders. The safety tape gives the recipient the additional hint to check the delivery for damage to the tape before accepting it and to note this on the delivery note if necessary. Pallet caps prevent the formation of piles on fragile items during transport.
In this way, deliveries arrive safely and well protected and nothing stands in the way of the wellness temple at home.
