Round tubes and postal surcharges: how to avoid them?
If you wish to send your products by post, you should first of all know that you must respect the minimum and maximum dimensions authorised by the carrier:
Maximum external dimensions
- Length + 2 x ø = 200 cm
Minimum external dimensions
- Length + 2 x ø = 32 cm
- Length 22 cm
- Minimum diameter = 5 cm
You should also bear in mind that round shipping tubes are subject to a postal surcharge, as these round packages cannot be mechanised by the carrier and therefore require manual handling, which results in higher costs.
So how can you avoid this surcharge? There are two possibilities:
- Either choose square tubes, which correspond well to the cardboard packaging shapes that the Post Office can handle.
- Or use sleeves, which are placed over your round shipping tubes to stabilise them on the Post Office’s conveyors.

- Wrap the poster in a plastic sleeve to further protect it from moisture and possible snags. You can choose a heat-sealable sleeve to secure it around the product. Wrap

Beyond this wrap technique, you can also use these materials as cushioning in the shipping tube, stuffing them into your package at each end of the poster. - Use a rubber band to secure the poster around the tube and keep its shape, but make sure the band is not too tight to avoid damage to your product.
