QWL in the warehouse: 7 keys to consider | RAJA

5min read 27/06/2022

  • An ergonomic packing station increases the rate at which packages are packed, thus increasing productivity.
  • Appropriate logistic handling equipment facilitates movement in the warehouse and transport of goods, resulting in less damage and financial loss.
  • Applications such as WMS facilitate stock management: inventory errors are reduced.

Fidéliser vos employés au long terme

Travailler votre marque employeur

  • Are operators supported in their careers?
  • Are the warehouse infrastructures secure?
  • Is the management of the teams benevolent?
  • Do employees have autonomy in their tasks?
  • Is professional training offered?
  • Is the health of workers respected?
  • Are the work tools functional and do they really save time for the operators?
  • What are the internal communication channels? Are they well used?

this process will allow you to gather factual and precise information, but also to involve all your teams in the change.

Implementing a Quality of Life at Work approach: 7 ways to think about it

Do you understand the stakes of the QWL approach, but you don’t know where to start concretely? Here are seven keys to apply

  • Make regular breaks compulsory: Taking breaks is not easy in logistics, where the action is continuous, but by imposing a system of compulsory breaks you allow all employees to think about taking a break and to establish this habit.
  • Introduce a rotation system: to vary the tasks carried out, suggest to your teams that they rotate through the warehouse. This can be done on a weekly basis.
  • Provide break areas in the warehouse: the warehouse is not the most comfortable place in the supply chain: the temperature is difficult to manage, and it is a noisy place. Install a real and pleasant rest area to allow your employees to relieve themselves during their breaks. This area must be isolated.
  • Offer coaching to your employees: many companies use external service providers for individual or group coaching. You can work on different aspects of your organisation with the help of coaches: communication, well-being, management, etc
  • Establish informal moments: they help to strengthen links within a team and between departments. Traditional teambuilding can take various forms: a sports day, a friendly monthly coffee, a festive event, etc
  • Ensuring the safety of operators: setting up ergonomic workstations and anti-MSR equipment is important for improving the working conditions of logistics operators.
  • Training in good anti-MSD practices: in addition to quality equipment, you need to train your teams in good practices to work safely. Our training on muscle awakening and on gestures and postures can help you teach your employees good practices to avoid the appearance of Musculoskeletal Disorders at work.

the methods for improving the Quality of Life at Work represent an initial investment: ergonomic equipment, training, etc. But you will see that this investment will quickly pay off: improved productivity, loyalty, lower absenteeism, etc. Moreover, fewer sick days and lower staff turnover will enable you to make savings.
