The winter period is a good time to remember a few rules to ensure the safety and comfort of logistics teams (order pickers, forklift drivers, etc.) Here are a few tips and a selection of solutions made by our teams.
What the official texts say on the Sante Publique website
direct exposure to the cold presents health risks for workers. It also favours the occurrence of accidents. When the ambient temperature is below 5°C, vigilance is required. The most effective prevention consists of avoiding or limiting the time spent working in the cold. Read all the advice and the reminder of the law on Santé Publique France
1. Equipping order pickers and forklift drivers
adopt clothing against the cold, especially for those who are static (particularly forklift drivers). The lack of movement leads to a lack of circulation which accelerates hypothermia
2.Keep staff safeBe aware of puddles that become ice rinks as soon as the temperature drops too low. Systematically wipe up or mark off areas if the area is too large
- Super absorbent wiping spool (or the chamois version for multiple use)
- Signage to warn passing crews and transporters
- Mark off areas to be avoided with traffic cones
3. You don’t need to read the Public Health advice to know that you need to take more shortbreaksin a warm place, with a hot drink, when the temperature drops
- Coffee cups with lids during breaks
- See a little soup to get the heart pumping
4.
Have a warm room
with a heating system, even a portable one, and make sure you get enough air to avoid monoxide poisoning!
5. The right adhesive
And yes, not all adhesives behave the same way when the temperature is low. Choose a strong polypropylene adhesive that offers perfect resistance to the cold (and humidity). And to reduce unnecessary manoeuvring, our experts recommend the long-length polypropylene adhesive version (less reloading) with a dispenser (saves effort, and therefore energy!).
