[FR] How can you clean your warehouse 100% efficiently?

5min read 16/08/2024

Cleaning the warehouse may seem like a basic task for anyone working in it, but it’s not always an easy one.

Whether yours is very large, handles very dirty products, or has a wide variety of surfaces, here you’ll find everything you need for proper warehouse cleaning.

Warehouse cleanliness: essential for the efficiency and QWL of your teams

As an employer, the French Labour Code requires you to clean your premises regularly. Article R232-1-14 states: “Work premises and their annexes must be regularly maintained and cleaned; they must also be free of all clutter.

Cleaning your warehouse is therefore the bare minimum to ensure optimum working conditions for your teams.

What’s more, the cleanliness of the warehouse will have an impact on :

  • Team motivation. It’s more motivating to work in a well-organised, well-kept workspace. Industrial cleaning means greater efficiency in logistical tasks – and can even prevent certain accidents in the workplace!
  • Team loyalty. Offering your operators good working conditions contributes to their well-being in the warehouse, and therefore to their staying with the company.
  • Attractiveness of your company. By building loyalty among your current employees, you can promote an employer brand based on Quality of Life in the workplace, making it easier to attract new operators when they’re needed.
  • Customer satisfaction. By cleaning the warehouse properly, you can ensure that the product you send is free of dust and dirt. The bare minimum to offer a good shopping experience to the end customer.

Hence the need either to dedicate part of the budget to a cleaning company, or to dedicate part of the teams’ working time to tidying and cleaning.

New Call-to-action

What warehouse cleaning equipment should you choose?

Whether you use a cleaning company or your operators are responsible for maintaining the premises, invest in the right equipment.

For wiping surfaces

TORK industrial cloths are thick and flexible, and highly resistant to solvents.
Embossed chamois wiping spools allow you to clean and maintain your machine tools. They offer excellent absorbency for economical and effective wiping.
Soft cloths help you to effectively remove dust from scratch-sensitive surfaces.
Disinfectant wipes can be provided at workstations for regular cleaning by operators.
Mops for floors, while microfibre cloths can be used for more sensitive surfaces.

For cleaning floors, carpets and rugs

Invest in an industrial hoovercapable of sucking up dust, but also water if required
Choose a mop for easy floor cleaning. Made from microfibre, it quickly picks up dirt from the floor.
Make a spin bucket for mopping floors with your mop.
Invest in a cleaning trolley to make cleaning easier in large warehouses.
A squeegee is essential for removing dirt and water from the floor quickly.
Put a brush and a shovel available to operators to pick up small debris from the floor.
Provide cleaning gloves to your employees or maintenance staff dedicated to cleaning the warehouse to protect them during these tasks.
Don’t forget to maintain the third-party premises of the warehouse!

Tidying up and cleaning the warehouse itself is essential – but so is providing clean toilets and a clean kitchen for your employees.

So don’t forget to bring along :

How do you choose your cleaning products?

You can’t wash and disinfect your warehouse without effective cleaning products!

To clean a warehouse properly, you need to think about all the following types of cleaning products:

  • Floor cleaners
  • Detergents for heavily soiled surfaces or those requiring deep cleaning
  • Cleaning sprays for common surfaces
  • Degreasing products, if your warehouse handles oil- or grease-based products
  • Cleaning products for glass surfaces

Be sure to choose virucidal products, which will kill any bacteria and viruses that may be present in the warehouse.

You should also make sure that these products are eco-responsible. Choose products with an eco-label, based on plant-based cleaners, which respect the environment when they are released into the drains.

Good news: the RAJA online shop offers a selection of eco-responsible cleaning products suitable for all types of business premises!

Bonus: Have you thought about waste management in the warehouse?

You’ve got it: regular maintenance of your warehouse helps to ensure that your premises are clean, that your teams are efficient and that they enjoy a good quality of life at work.

But don’t overlook another key element in keeping your business premises clean: waste management. Since 2016, all employers have been legally obliged to sort and recycle the five waste streams: paper and cardboard, metal, plastic, glass and wood.

To do this, make sure you have the right equipment:

Containers large enough to hold all your waste every day – which means you need to calculate the volume of waste they need to collect. You can choose different colours to help your staff choose the right container for the waste they need to sort.
Bin bags adapted to your containersIf possible, they should be eco-responsible (made from recycled materials) and of a different colour to make it easier for your employees to sort their waste.
Waste paper binsTo be placed next to printers and in offices to sort paper.
Pedal-operated waste binsfor sorting waste in toilets.
Biowaste collectors to sort your organic waste

Find all this equipment for the collection and sorting of waste on our RAJA online shop.

You should also take the time to find the right collection service providers for the different waste streams you sort… and to educate your teams about selective sorting! To delve deeper into the subject, take a look at our short guide to improving waste management in the warehouse.

Let it shine!
