4 ways to make your supply chain more sustainable | RAJA

In 2022, you, as a logistics manager, have made a good resolution: to make your supply chain more sustainable, more eco-responsible. In doing so, you are following the concerns of your end customers, who are also very interested in the impact of their daily consumption on the planet.However, there are many levers to activate to make your supply chain greener. You can act on your supply chain, your warehouses, your packaging, your modes of transport, etc. Where do you start? To get your eco-responsibility strategy off to a good start, here are 4 avenues for making your supply chain sustainable, to be deployed according to the resources you have available to you and to your commitment to the environment:

Are you familiar with the concept of Value Stream Mapping, souvent réduit à son acronyme VSM ? Il s’agit d’une technique qui pourrait vous être très utile pour repérer les pistes d’action pour rendre votre supply chain durable. Le Value Stream Mapping permet de cartographier la chaîne de valeur actuelle de votre ligne de production, pour l’améliorer par la suite.

Cette technique est basée sur le principe du Lean Management, dont vous avez sans doute déjà entendu parler. Le concept ? Identifier les points d’amélioration d’une chaîne de production, pour prioriser ceux à modifier au fil du temps, pour atteindre plus d’efficacité, moins de gaspillage et, in fine, plus de valeur ajoutée pour l’entreprise comme pour ses clients.

Ainsi, le VSM vous donne l’opportunité de reconfigurer vos process tout au long de votre chaîne de valeur.   • Sort and reduce your waste on your production line, for a more sustainable flow management.
  • Dematerialise some of your current processes, for example, why not avoid printing paper picklists for order preparation, or reduce paper or email emissions to your suppliers, customers and prospects?

Piste #2 : Mettre en place une stratégie de transport éco-responsable

Si vous devez piloter au quotidien la chaîne logistique globale de votre entreprise, vous le savez bien : le transport de marchandises est l’un des pôles de votre supply chain le plus gourmand en énergie, et le plus polluant.

Pour arriver à rendre votre supply chain durable, vous ne pouvez donc pas vous affranchir d’une réflexion avancée sur l’amélioration de l’acheminement de vos produits finis! Voici quelques pistes pour ce faire.

Choisir des transporteurs éco-responsables

Les prestataires que vous choisissez pour prendre en charge vos flux physiques doivent être vos meilleurs alliés pour une supply chain durable.

Improving waste management in the warehouse

Working towards a more sustainable supply chain management also means ensuring that waste is properly handled in your warehouse. This is not always an easy task, especially for the logistician who manages a large storage space! Here’s where to start in order to take control of this task

  • Start by taking stock of the waste management in your warehouse, assessing the volume of waste you produce each day, while keeping the 5 different waste streams (paper/cardboard, metal, plastic, glass and wood) separate.
  • Then find the right service providers to collect and recover this waste. For household waste streams, you can turn to your local public services. For other types of waste, you will have to turn to private service providers specialised in the stream in question.
  • Finally, set up selective sorting in your warehouse. To do this, it is crucial that you have the right equipment (containers and bins for each waste stream, suitable bin bags, etc.), but also that you make your employees aware of selective sorting and ensure that the waste streams are managed on a daily basis.

Piste #4 : Travailler sa stratégie d’emballage pour une supply chain durable

Comment parler de supply chain durable sans aborder le sujet de l’emballage ? Car celui-ci participe non seulement à l’expérience que vous proposez à vos clients, mais également à votre stratégie RSE. Voici quelques pistes de réflexion pour vous tourner vers des emballages éco-responsables.

Réduire le poids-volume de ses emballages

Si vous êtes responsable de la logistique de votre entreprise, sans doute vous êtes-vous déjà penché sur la problématique du poids volumétrique de vos emballages. Celle-ci est cruciale, tant son optimisation vous permet de limiter le vide dans vos colis, et donc, le transport de vide dans les conteneurs de vos transporteurs.
