3 types of wrapping paper to consider for your packages

5min read 18/10/2022

Transportation can sometimes put a strain on your packages. They can suffer shocks, damaging their contents. In order to best protect your goods, it is best to wrap your products in parcel wrapping paper. Thanks to this, you also provide an optimal customer experience when opening the package. From kraft paper to silk paper, several solutions are possible.

Kraft paper, the most versatile parcel packaging

Kraft paper is a material with many advantages. Indeed, while it is protective, reliable, strong and easy to use, it is also ecological. Thus, it fits perfectly into a green logistics approach. This material is designed to carry more or less heavy loads, as it is particularly strong. It is also important to note that kraft paper can be manufactured in several formats. It can be presented as follows:

It is quite possible to choose an alternative to natural kraft paper. These parcel wrappers also come in coloured versions.

Beware though, as kraft paper is a material that is relatively sensitive to moisture. It is best not to use it in inclement weather, or to pack wet products.

Bubble wrap, the most secure parcel packaging

Bubble wrap is widely recognised for its effectiveness in protecting fragile products during transport. It is therefore one of the most frequently used packaging materials in parcels. It is sometimes used as a cushioning material to fill gaps in the package. Another important advantage is that it protects the products from moisture. Similarly, it also exists in an isothermal version, allowing it to protect products from temperature variations. Finally, bubble wrap offers good value for money.

However, this material is made from a polluting plastic, polyethylene. It therefore suffers from a bad image, especially among environmentally conscious consumers. To remedy this drawback, manufacturers have designed recycled bubble wrap. It has the same characteristics as the former, with the advantage of being environmentally friendly.

Silk paper, the parcel packaging for a foolproof customer experience

Sourced from wood fibres or cotton fabric, tissue paper is the thinnest of papers. This natural and environmentally friendly material protects products while enhancing them. Used for packaging packages, but also for cushioning, tissue paper is particularly appreciated for its delicate appearance and softness. It offers an optimal customer experience, especially during unboxing. In addition, its biodegradable properties make it the packaging of choice for companies concerned about their environmental impact.

Silk paper allows you to personalise your packages thanks to its different colours. Indeed, it is possible to opt for:

Silk paper remains a delicate material. It is not usually sufficient to protect fragile products. Its main function is above all to offer protection against micro-scratches to sensitive productsthrough a very soft finish.

Package cushioning in paper packaging

Products sometimes need to be cushioned in their packaging in order to best protect them from shock. What packaging to choose for cushioning? And how to gain productivity in this stage of the production line?

What cushioning materials to use?

The traditional bubble wrap is found in a lot of packages. Now it is increasingly replaced by recycled bubble wrap. Indeed, as we saw earlier, this second material offers the same protective benefits, the environmental friendliness in addition.

There is a time and productivity saving alternative to bubble wrap: the paper wedging machine. This high-performance machine forms paper to your requirements in a matter of moments. Crumpling or folding paper manually is a time-consuming task for operators. Using a paper wedging machine therefore allows you to increase the packaging rate. In addition, paper wedging perfectly protects your packages and offers an environmentally responsible image to your company.
