If you have a business that packs and ships goods on a daily basis, you’re probably often faced with the same requirement as the rest of the packaging world: you need to automate and optimize! But what does this actually look like in practice? For many, part of the solution is to introduce machines that produce protection into the established packaging process. This is guaranteed to make the protection of your products better and the packaging faster.
If you are self-employed or a small business, one of your challenges may be that you either don’t have a warehouse or your storage space is very limited. If that’s the case, then you also know that package filling and protection is incredibly space-consuming. Just think of how much bubble wrap, woody paper, packing chips and the like take up. That’s where machines that produce protection come in. They create material for cushioning, wrapping and filling cavities in boxes quickly and easily, and just when you need it. That means you don’t have to buy ready-made protection that will sit in your warehouse and take up space.
The packing materials used for these packing machines, whether plastic or paper, are often supplied on rolls and are therefore compact. As well as taking up less space in your warehouse, the reduced volume also has the benefit of lowering delivery costs for your business.
We have previously described the benefits of paper protection and the machines you can use to your advantage to produce parcel filling. In this post, we instead look at machines for the more traditional package protection, namely air pillows.
Air cushion machines: produce air cushions and bubble wrap on demand
Air cushion machines are often relatively small, so they don’t take up much space in your warehouse. As the name suggests, they produce air pillows and bubble wrap to protect and secure products, and they are extremely easy to use. You simply put a roll on the machine, select the appropriate settings and the machine is ready to produce air cushions when you are ready to use them.
One of the great advantages of air cushions and bubble wrap is their light weight. They are almost all air, and especially in the case of postal items, every gram counts.
Your daily packaging needs define which air cushion machine you should consider integrating into your packaging process. Fortunately, there are many good and tailored solutions available, and in the following we take a closer look at some of the models that we believe are the best on the market and that cover the needs of most businesses.
Mini Pak’R
With a Mini Pak’r air pillow machine, you produce your own air pillows, reducing your reliance on suppliers and saving both time and storage space.
The Mini Pak’R table-top model is the most compact air-powder machine. It weighs only 6 kg and can easily be moved around. It stands fine on a packing table, but you can save space by mounting it on the wall. Because it takes up very little space, it can be used in most places: warehouses, retailers’ back rooms, etc. It’s easy to use and incredibly efficient if you have a small or medium-sized need. It is therefore particularly suitable for occasional use of small quantities of air cushions as filling or protective material. The machine produces up to 7.5 metres of air cushions per minute, and can handle a capacity of up to 300 packs per day. That’s the equivalent of 2 m³ of filling material, which is the equivalent of about 7 bags of packing chips and the storage space saved is potentially huge!
Mini Pak’R can be used in combination with 5 types of film. Each type of film is good for different types of air cushions, so you can choose the right solution for each product or package. The only thing you need to decide is whether the air cushions are to be used as filling, for padding, shock absorption or fixation. Thanks to a perforation in the film, the air cushions are also easy to tear apart by hand.
The Mini Pak’R also has a built-in chip, so it can find the right settings for the tubular film you are using. So setting up and operating the machine couldn’t be easier!
New Air
TheNew Air bubble wrap machine is suitable for larger needs. It is efficient in use and can produce up to 27 metres of bubble wrap per minute. The compact design means the machine can be easily integrated into any packing line, and thanks to the large capacity you don’t have to worry about finding storage space for large rolls of bubble wrap. You simply make the pads as needed easily and simply.
With one roll of film for the New Air machine, you can produce the equivalent of 6 rolls of normal bubble wrap (1 m x 100 m), and you can choose from 8 different types of film. The New Air machine uses a Barrier Bubble technology that better holds the air in the bubbles, meaning greater protection for your products, no matter how long they are in transit. The fast inflation technology ensures more efficient packaging processes and optimal use of working time. In short: More packages get out the door and get shipped than otherwise.
All in all, this is a machine that ensures efficiency, economic savings and a reduction in freight costs.
Fill-Air Rocket
The Fill-Air Rocket machine is also a good choice for those who pack a large number of products. The machine produces up to 9,000 protective air pillows per hour. That’s the equivalent of 30 metres of air pillows per minute! It also allows you to control the size of the cushions, making anything from small 2cm cushions up to 18cm cushions. You can choose between 6 different cushions and foil in 2 different widths. So this is an incredibly versatile machine! The foil is also perforated, which means you can easily tear it apart between cushions, using just the amount of protection you need.
Fill-Air Rocket is easy to use. Just switch it on, apply the foil and it’s ready to use. The Fill-Air foil creates a consistently stable inflation of the air cushions, which is durable and provides stable and lasting protection for your packaged products. This way, your customers receive their products in perfect condition, without damage and, not least, without a lot of unnecessary extras that they have to dispose of afterwards.
