Packaging for clothing and textiles

4min read 25/03/2022

How to send clothes by post? What is a smart and practical packaging for textiles? … and what parameters are worth taking into account? We’ll try to answer them in a nutshell in this blog post – enjoy!

1: Choose material and quality for your shipment:

To start with, the quality, look and material of the packaging should match your product. Put some thought into how you want your shipping packaging to appear to the customer.

  • Should it be environmentally friendly?
  • Should it be easy to pack ?
  • Should it be returnable ?
  • Should it be easy to carry ?
  • Should it have a special look? …

…Put yourself in the customer’s shoes and think about what makes sense for your company and your product.

Packaging for clothing and textiles:

Shipping bags:

The cheapest and easiest way to pack clothes is in what we call shipping bags – but the dear child has many names. The shipping bag is also called, web shopping bags, e-commerce bags, mail order bags etc.

The shipping bag, in its simple form, comes in many varieties. Plastic, paper, with/without handle, with/without return, eco-friendly and many many more.

Shipping bags are strong, break and tear resistant, and plastic ones are also water resistant – perfect for items that won’t be damaged by bending, such as clothes, shoes and textiles. The shipping bag also generally takes up less space, which is an advantage for the courier, while saving on volumetric weight and space in your packing area. Read more about volumetric weight in this blog post.

Therefore, consider the features and what parameters are important for your company’s customer relationship – it should make sense even if you choose a shipping bag with print and more features.

Mailboxes:

The slightly more expensive and slightly more exclusive way to pack your clothes can be in a flat mailbox possibly with a tissue paper around it, such as these:

Printed packaging:

Customer loyalty without personal contact is not so easy. In retail, sales people can build a relationship with the customer through competent advice, tactile experience when trying on clothes and with a friendly demeanour. Online retail needs to be able to accept returns and create an experience through the deliveries/packaging. Printed packaging, or just packaging of a particularly good quality, becomes a parameter to assess whether it is necessary in its “customer service” and what role it should play in the customer relationship.

Printed packaging is clearly at the expensive end and requires a slightly larger print run – but it attracts attention and speaks to the customer’s overall image and experience, i.e. the ‘unboxing’ experience.

Accessories that please your image:

Tissue paper helps to make your package a little more exclusive and give a sense of finish. Our tissue paper at RAJA is chlorine and acid free and most importantly, it doesn’t stain.

Wrap your products, give them a nice label and maybe a little greeting in the form of a card – and you’ve easily and simply created a great unboxing experience.

Another accessory could be transparent bags like these. At RAJA, the bags are available in 75% recycled material.

These transparent bags can protect the textiles or help create a nice finish with a nice label or ribbon around it.
