Pack and protect with paper

7min read 15/03/2019

Packaging machines are one of today’s biggest trends in packaging. Many companies talk about how they can see great benefits from automating their packaging process, and it’s no wonder because it can help increase productivity, save money on materials and minimise environmental impact.

Why you need to automate your packing process

Product protection can easily be made faster, cheaper and more efficient by using packaging machines. Some of the obvious benefits are that you:

  • optimises the parcel and goods handling process, thereby increasing efficiency.
  • reduces the amount of materials and accompanying waste, thus cutting costs.
  • frees up storage space for additional inventory.
  • helps reduce the environmental impact of your business.
  • gives your business greater control over the packaging process, improving flexibility.

If you handle more than 10 packages per day, then there’s a good chance that a packaging machine can save your business both time and money. Many machines can actually be rented, so you don’t necessarily have to worry about paying a large sum of money for a machine all at once.

If you pack a much smaller number of items or deal with very specialised products, then an automatic packing machine may not be the best option for your business. On the other hand, a machine like the manual Fillpak M will probably be a good help. We’ll come back to the Fillpak M later in this post.

Our experts are always on hand to help find the right packaging solution for you and your business, and if you’re unsure whether a packaging machine could be right for you, contact them on tel: 44 58 77 00 or info@rajapack.dk today.

Packaging machines for protection

Making sure that shipped goods arrive safely and intact is essential for any successful business, and to protect loose items during transit, paper and air pillows are perfect as shock-absorbing parcel packaging. Protection packers produce quick and easy packing fill when needed and are an alternative to buying ready-made packing fill (such as flo-pak, hay fill or bubble wrap).

Paper packing

Machines that convert paper into protection are both a budget-friendly and an environmentally friendly way to create packaging fill. There are even indications that customers prefer to receive their parcels wrapped in paper because they consider it more environmentally friendly.

The machines take piles or rolls of paper and transform them into compact and resilient fillings of crumpled paper that can be used to wrap, fix, and protect package contents.

Such machines are ideal for large volumes of packaging (they create up to 1.4 metres of paper protection per second) and, although they take up more space than air-powder machines, the paper fill and therefore the machines are more flexible because this type of fill can be better adapted to the packaging needs of specific products. If you pack more than 50 products per day, these machines are almost certain to save you both money and time, and generally cut 30% of material consumption within the first 3 months.

More advanced models come with features like remote control, foot pedals and the ability to program paper lengths. At Rajapack we have a wide range of PadPak machines, so there is a machine for every business need.

The most affordable models, such as the Fillpak M, are suitable for smaller pack volumes. It feeds the paper through a funnel and because it’s manual, you have full control over how much protective paper you create. For more moderate pack volumes, machines like the Padpak Junior are an obvious choice. It fits well into packing processes where at least 30 packs are packed per day.

TheFillPak TT machine is a great alternative if you need more pack fill than the previous two machines can achieve – the machine produces as much as 1.4 m of pack fill per second. Another obvious choice is the FillPak TT Cutter. The machine has an automatic cutting mechanism so that the paper pads are fed directly from the machine into the packing box, thus streamlining the packing process. The cutting mechanism can also be set to produce and cut a new paper pad as soon as the previous one is torn off. You can also set different paper lengths, producing filling material that precisely fits your shipments. Finally, it has a foot pedal, so you have both hands free to pack and close your shipments. Also, the FillPak TT Cutter is extremely fast, producing 1.4 m of package fill per second

Both Fillpak TT and Fillpak TT Cutter use 1-ply paper which is available in 2 qualities. One pallet of paper provides up to 72 m³ of package filling, and can easily replace air pads, foam pads and interleaving paper. As an innovation, you can also choose our Greenline paper, which is made from 100% recycled materials and is an environmentally friendly alternative to the classic brown paper. Please note that Greenline paper is greyer than other paper types due to the recycled fibres.

Fully automated high volume machines such as the PadPak Senior are perfect for more advanced packaging processes because they can provide a continuous flow of paper. The paper length can be programmed in advance, so you can be sure you’ll always get the right amount of package filling.

The fastest machine with the highest capacity is the PadPak Guardian. It is a compact machine that can produce up to 72 meters per minute, which means that the machine can provide protection for anywhere between 1000 and 1500 packages per day. The machine has 3 adjustable speeds and an integrated cutting tool. It is therefore perfect for companies that pack a lot of packages a day and where things go a bit fast.

Purchase, loan and maintenance

Buying a packaging machine can be a big investment, and it can be difficult for small and medium-sized businesses to justify such a purchase. For the same reason, you can rent many of our packaging machines! There are no big here-and-now costs, and you have the opportunity to test the machine before deciding whether or not to rent it. This means you can focus on integrating the machine into your packaging process without having to worry about a long-term financial commitment. The price includes free delivery, installation and maintenance guidance.

One final factor worth considering when integrating an automated packaging machine into your packaging process is what happens if it breaks and needs repair. Here you can rest easy, as we can arrange assistance directly at your business address if problems arise, so you can be assured of a minimal period of time without the machine should problems arise.

If you are considering including a packaging machine in your packaging process, or if you have any questions about which model is most suitable for your business, please contact our experts on tel: 44 58 77 00 or via info@rajapack.dk to find out more about our range and how we can help you optimise your packaging process.
