In this article, we review 7 common package errors that can occur in any online store and share some tips to avoid them.
First of all, we would like to encourage you to take the time to pack your products properly for the sake of your customers who will receive them. The customer wants to receive the goods as soon as possible, and in perfect condition. Giving the customer a good experience when receiving and opening the shipment is an important part of the customer experience. It will make the customer continue shopping in your webshop.
1. Too much recycling of old boxes
It is environmentally friendly to reuse packaging, but when boxes are worn or damaged you should not recycle them. Reusing worn boxes and trying to cover the damaged box with tape is not a good idea.
A better idea might be to use the worn-out boxes as packing material using a cardboard maker?
2. Too much tape
It is also not a good idea to use extra tape to be on the safe side. It is unnecessary and increases costs, but is also a bad choice for the environment.
Have you tested paper packing tape instead ? If you use paper tape, the boxes can be reused without having to remove the tape first, saving your customers time and the environment another burden.
3. Don’t use too much parcel filling
Items that are loose in the box can be damaged in transit. In addition to waste, this leads to disappointed customers who may not return to your webshop.
There are a number of options in parcel filling and protection – where paper filling is both good for the environment and your image out to. Feel free to contact RAJA’s packaging specialists and get guidance on which type of parcel filling is best for your products.

4. For large boxes
Why pay to send air? With boxes that are just the right size for your product, you minimise the need for parcel filling while making room for as many boxes as possible at a time at the conveyor.
If you need help choosing the right box for your product, we recommend our handy Box Selector.
Alternatively, you can choose variable height boxes, which can be easily adjusted in height to match the product.

5. Missing or damaged packing slip
Is the packing slip missing or damaged on arrival at the customer? If you use cover pockets that are attached to the outside of the box, you will ensure that the cover note arrives intact. The pocket itself protects the paper from moisture and dirt – and it’s visible on arrival.
6. Use mailing bags where you can
Shipping bags are affordable and convenient to send products in, but they are not suitable for all types of products. If you’re sending fragile products, you should consider whether shipping bags are the right way to go, or whether boxes are more suitable. For example, a shipping bag is good for clothes and textiles – that is, soft goods – and takes up less space in transit. There are also special customer-friendly bags with both a handle and a return strip, so you can reuse the bag for returns.
7: Wrong choice of corrugated board
The quality of your cardboard box is what should secure your product. We offer basically 3 different qualities: single, double or triple corrugated. The grade is chosen based on weight, fragility or special transport and/or storage conditions related to your product. See in the graphic below where the different qualities apply.

Always ensure good packaging in the right size and material for the products you are sending. With the right protection and labelling you will go far and win the loyalty of your customers.
