Shipping packaging around the world

2min read 15/11/2011

Who doesn’t know Jules Verne’s famous adventure novel “Around the World in Eighty Days” about a thrilling story across the globe. The heroes of the book have to face many challenges and are subjected to harrowing journeys over land and sea – just like your cargo in international exports. In addition, in many countries, you have to reckon with domestic transport regulations and legislation that can delay your shipment. Many delays also occur in the above book, but they make the plot interesting and attractive to the reader. If you are shipping your goods, you will definitely prefer a smooth-running shipment. In that case, we have a useful tip for you: safe and extra strong plywood pallet containers.

Due to their stability, robustness and resistance to moisture, these shipping containers are among the most sought-after export packaging even in sea freight. The walls of the container are made of durable birch plywood and thanks to its 5 layers are very weather resistant. The extremely load-bearing bottom of up to 1,000 kg with a thickness of 18 mm is equipped with three skids with fork holes for lifting from 4 sides for easy handling. The box edge profiles are reinforced with nickel-free rivets. In addition, the pallet containers comply with the international standard ISPM 15 (see below for more info), which allows the transport of packaging to all countries.

Their additional advantage is not only their practical stackability, but also their fast assembly. The plywood pallet containers are delivered disassembled (separate bottom, walls and lid) – thus saving storage space. When folded, you simply erect the walls. You fix these to the bottom plate, and then place the lid on the container. The extended edge of the lid allows for a safe and secure closure. Finally, wrap the complete pallet container with tie-down tape and your delivery is literally ready to go around the world…

Are you expecting an adventurous plot? Shipping packaging ensures a smooth “shipping story” with a successful ending.

ISMP 15 is an internationally agreed phytosanitary standard that was compiled through IPPC (International Plant Protection Convention). This standard prevents the introduction of wood pests into other countries. It contains requirements for solid wood packaging materials with a thickness greater than 6 mm in international trade. These packages must be sterilized by heat (56°C at the core for 30 minutes) or methyl bromide gas. Transport packages treated in this way are permanently marked with a specific symbol (see right). Packaging made of wood (plywood) does not need to be additionally treated for export as it has already been subjected to sterilising heat during manufacture. When transporting internationally, the transporter must ensure that the packaging used complies with ISPM 15.
