Paper tapes in the sign of ecology

3min read 18/04/2013

is For several years now, people have been paying attention to their consumption behaviour and looking for products that are both particularly healthy and environmentally friendly. Responsible and conscious consumerism is on the rise today – and thanks to growing social trends like LOHAS (short for Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability), known as ethical consumerism, is a positive step for the sustainability of current and future resources. This environmental behaviour does not only apply to food, clothing or cosmetics, but also to other products. Packaging developers are also increasingly focusing on environmental friendliness in the production of packaging and packaging materials.

Paper tapes at Rajapack

Since the discovery of adhesive tape by an engineer named Richard G. Drew in 1925, who spent two long years experimenting with vegetable oils, resins and rubber, among other things, much has changed through development and innovation. With the help of wet glue paper tape, you will not only close your boxes extra securely, but also aesthetically and unobtrusively thanks to the high-quality paper. The carrier material is made up of paper only, which makes this tape particularly environmentally friendly. Rajatape paper tapes are made from kraft paper without any chemical coating. Thanks to the eco-friendly natural rubber adhesive, they ensure a reliable and permanent adhesion. Compared to wetting tapes, this is a “clean” solution as you can stick them to the box without the need to wet them and you also save the time required for wetting tapes.

The big advantage of paper tape is the time saved in recycling. You no longer have to separate the tape from the box when sorting waste. In short, you recycle them together when you take back the packaging. The use of old paper significantly reduces the consumption of wood, water and primary energy. According to the non-profit packaging company EKO-KOM, more than 5.5 million tonnes of packaging waste has already been recycled in the Czech Republic since 2011 and the trend of waste sorting is growing.

The security effect of paper tape

In addition to reliably sealing the box, paper tape also has a security effect: by completely bonding the adhesive to the surface of the box, it acts as a seal. In particular, the wetting tape has a high security effect. If the tape is removed, the surface of the carton will be damaged and the recipient will be able to see at a glance any unauthorised access, e.g. during transport. The tape is suitable for light to medium weight cartoning and is also easy to tear off by hand.

Richard G. Drew certainly never dreamed of 90 years ago. Yet this is one way of contributing to environmental sustainability. And this will please not only environmentalists, but also environmentally-minded customers.

Paper tapes do not waste ecological or your financial resources!
