How it all started…
For almost 80 years it has been unthinkable in all warehouses and logistics, mail order, manufacturing, offices and homes… you guessed it – we’re talking about duct tape! Its career began at the beginning of the 19th century by chance. In the search for the optimal bandage for medical devices, pharmacist Beiersdorf created an adhesive film, but due to its irritating properties it was not suitable for medical use. He filed this patent in 1935 for a transparent adhesive tape and in 1936 the now well-known tesa®brand was officially registered. Thus begins the indescribable triumphant campaign of tesa adhesive tape and the tesa company as a whole. The fields of application are almost limitless: as insect tape, warning tape for marking stairs, double-sided adhesive tapes for hanging various items on the wall from posters to complete shelves… It sticks and it really sticks!
How to properly tape a box with adhesive tape

As merchants of goods for packaging and shipping, we see the most important role of adhesive tape quite clearly, and that is to seal boxes correctly. Often we can see the opinion that if a lot of something is used, it is not a bad thing. So you often receive a box that is literally tangled with adhesive tape. However, this is a high consumption of material which is not justified. After all, taping is a matter of technique, not quantity! Below we show you three methods of gluing that will help you to close boxes securely and yet with minimal material consumption.
U-closure – suitable for lightweight packages up to 20 kg over shorter distances.
U&L closure – suitable for medium-weight packages up to 40 kg, for longer transport routes or for long-term storage.
H closure – recommended for heavy parcels from 40 kg and above, for long distance transport and for long term storage.
It should be noted that not only the correct type of closure, but especially the correct choice of the appropriate adhesive tape plays a very important role. As a rule, the following questions are important: What is the quality of the box to be sealed with adhesive tape? What is the weight of the goods in the package? What are the climatic conditions to which the adhesive tape will be exposed? P.S. This is a very important topic, especially in the area of deep freezing or when exporting to tropical countries). Does the unwinding properties of the tape or the sound the tape makes when unwinding also play a role? P.S. There are tapes that can be unwound using higher mechanical force or lightly or tapes with noiseless or loud unwinding.
