Fixing and protecting products with air or paper?

3min read 15/03/2012

There are a lot of questions you can answer in a split second: weekend – Monday, success – failure, vacation – work…

However, if a customer asks us whether it is better to use bubble wrap or paper strips to fill and fix the products in the package, i.e. to use air or paper: there are some important questions to answer in order to recommend the optimal solution to the customer:

What type of goods need to be wrapped?

For the protection of very heavy or sharp-edged products, a paper option such as wrapping paper or corrugated board is recommended . Of course, there are bubble wrap films that can support loads up to 300 kg, but if there is mechanical pressure, e.g. a pointed edge on the bubble of the bubble wrap, air loss can occur and therefore impact protection is reduced. In contrast, paper is extra resistant to possible tearing and compression during transport.

Does your product have an asymmetrical form? In this case, the possibilities for flexible paper protection such as wrapping paper, corrugated board, paper fixing fillers are unlimited. You can protect products of different shapes: pipes, engines, building components, etc.

For packaging fragile products such as electronics, ceramics, perfumes, etc., bubble wrap is a suitable packaging solution.

What storage space is available?

If you have limited storage options for packaging and packaging, then air cushions or individual bubble wrap production clearly wins. By filling with air (1% material, 99% air), they not only reduce the need for storage space, but also drastically reduce residual waste.

Second in optimizing storage space is the individual production of paper protection. Paper protection systems are available in various forms, ranging from a compact variant for small operations – the desktop model PadPak Compakt or the mobile PadPak Junior – to intensive production of paper fixing material with the PadPak Senior.

What weather conditions will the protective material be exposed to?

The combination of moisture fluctuations and rain are generally unfavourable factors for paper packaging materials. Bubble wrap, on the other hand, protects your goods against dust, moisture and various contaminants.
